DIRECTV found code for my Sony reciever but instantly forgets it (?)
I have a DIRECTV with the white remote. (RC73)
I just added a Sony receiver model str- dh790.
When I turn on the directv, it automatically sends the prompt at the right hand bottom corner of the screen asking to "change audio device" because it sensed a new device I think.
I go through the prompts and find the code that turns on and off my new Sony receiver and I confirm it by the prompt which says "It Worked" then I hit done.
But when I press the OFF button on the white remote, the new Sony reciever stays on. and when i turn the TV turn back on, it prompts the same "change audio device" again like it never saved..
I have gone through the setup several times. Any insight on this?

When it is in setup all codes are sent, but in normal mode only the volume code is sent.

So, the on/off command for the "TV" is NOT sent in "normal mode"?
Can you explain a bit?

Yes, to Gregeusa's point, why precisely is that?

DTV didn't make them to turn on/off any soundbars/A/V receivers they want HDMI-CEC to do that.

Yeah, but the question was different...
specifically, so what I read is that you say the on/off command is sent while learning/setup... but when the remote is used in normal operation, it does NOT send the off command via ir?
this is the best I can interpret what you are saying to explain what is happening and what the OP asked you
