Directv Protection Plan and Technician

We have never had an unclear signal except in torrential downpours. We recently had some windstorms and now at the slightest bit of rain our satellite doesn't work and we get the error code. I believe that the dish on our home may have shifted in the storms that we had. I contacted Directv today because we have the protection plan and was told that a technician could not be scheduled at this time until the error code was happening and that I must call them at the exact time the error is happening. We wanted a technician to come to check the satellite dish to prevent the error from continuing however I am being told this cannot be done. If we pay for the protection package, I am confused as to why a technician cannot be scheduled to come out to ensure our satellite dish is placed correctly.

A technician should definitely come as this issue is able to be resolved if you have the Protection Plan.

Do you recall what error code you were getting at the time?

Go to Menu, Settings, Satellite, View Signal Strength, and press the (-) DASH button. Signals for satellite 101 should populate on your screen. Please note them here (just a rough estimate is fine, a few with zero is also normal), and then press the “+” button by where it says Satellite 101 to be sent to signals for 99 (ca). Do the same thing you did with 101, noting down the average of signals. Then, repeat this process for satellites 99 (cb), 103 (ca), and 103 (cb) by pressing the ‘+’ button for each one. By the end, you should have 5 estimates for five satellites. We can truly tell you if your dish needs to be reaimed.

Just tell them you're getting the "Error 771, Searching for Satellite" error message. Then they can dispatch a tech.
