Dish ReInstall

I've been looking at the forum and trying to confirm an answer for dish reinstallation.

I just had a new roof installed and therefore the dish was removed.  When I called DTV and spoke with a rep, I specifically told them that I required a tech to come out and reinstall the dish because a new roof had been put on the house.  They understood and set a service date.

When the tech arrived, he freaked out and said there was no way that he could do an install on a new roof as it could cause $20-$30k of damage and left in a huff.

As I understand, in this case, the roofer is NOT the expert in dish install for a variety of reasons, and that a DTV tech has specific tools required for mounting but also signal purposes.

Can anyone confirm or deny this?  Before I call back DTV to complain about this tech, I would like to have more info on hand.

Thanks in advance.

DTV doesn't reinstall a dish they install a new dish,  OSHA no longer allows anyone on the roof without proper safety equipment so DTV doesn't allow their techs to leave the ladder so unless it can be mounted on the edge then it can be pole mounted. New roofs may have a vapor barrier that can't be drilled into so there are under eve mounts or again a pole mount.

You have the satellite provider (DirecTV) install the dish as they would be the experts for that. Naturally the roofer would not be a dish expert as that is not their job.

A new dish would be installed, but depends on your new roof on how that is done. Also, per updated OSHA regulations, DirecTV stays in compliance by not allowing tech off the ladder onto the roof. Work must be done from the ladder, or an alternate location must be chosen (such as a pole mount).

You can call DirecTV back and request a second opinion on the install options. If the prior tech didn't explain the issue and just quoted estimated damage and left a bit unprofessionally (in a huff), I would submit a complaint on them.

So you don't end up with other surprises, what are the models of each box you have?

Appreciate the response.  The dish was originally on the edge of the roof.  So I would ask in return; shouldn't the tech have at least tried to mount on the edge or pole mount?  No one (on phone or tech in person) suggested a new dish and the tech did nothing other than show up and say he would not install.

Ok you have a current compatible setup. Though you have a couple items backward.

The Genie is WVBR0-01

The Main box is HR 54-500

The Genie is your main box. HR54 is the 3rd generation Genie.

The WVB is the Wireless Video Bridge. This is the wireless antenna that connects all 3 of your wireless Mini Genie Clients to the main Genie.

The Genie is the HR54, the WVB is what connects the minis to it.  You have owned the dish since it was installed so DTV will not touch it, which is why they only install a new dish.
