I don’t see any other model numbers on it except for the C61K-700. I only have two boxes, both are wireless. What do you mean by “the main Genie”? Both mine are identical.
What is “mini only”? If I wanted to exchange my equipment for a model that does have PIP, would I have to change all equipment including the dish itself?
You need an HR54 Genie to use PIP only on the TV it is connected to plus a WVB to continue using the C61W minis, the C61K mini is wired only. The account the HS17 Genie2 is on only allows minis.
Models starting with C are Mini Genie Clients. They only can access a single tuner so do not have PiP.
The regular Genie (HR34, HR44, HR54 and revised HR54R1) has 5 tuners with PiP. That is why it can only use up to 3 Clients at one time as needs 2 to itself to run PiP.
Genie-2 (HS17) is a server tower that doesn't go on a TV. Only feeds Clients, which as mentioned only use 1 tuner each. As such the Genie-2 does not have PiP as there is no way to deliver it. This is a restrictive model compared to regular Genies, which is why I personally do not recommend it.
Thanks to @shannon02 and @Juniper for the accurate information and prompt responses, in order to enjoy the picture in picture feature is necessary to have a TV connected to Genie (e.g., HR34, HR44). The Genie 2 (HS17) does not include that feature.

The C61K (the only 4K model) is not wireless. The only wireless models are C41W and C61W.
If you do have a wireless model, you need a wireless video bridge (WVB) installed on the coax. This is an owned accessory for $99. The Genie-2 (HS17) is the only model with the WVB built-in.
The HR54/HR54R1 is the one that supports the 4K setup. Only allows a single 4K stream at a time, where the HS17 supports two. This is really the only improvement over the regular Genies.
Regular Genies support full HDDVRs (i.e., HR24) but it has been difficult to get any of those activated as AT&T was pushing DirecTV to be a client only setup. Plus, those boxes use the old interface and can use the pre-SWM multiswitch. I hope the new co-owner gets equipment back on track and in time, provides a new generation of HDDVRs and/or Genies.

First only the main Genie has PIP unless it is the HS17 Genie2 that doesn't have PIP. Minis right now only have 1 tuner so can never have PIP.

Sounds like you may have the HS17 Genie2 as it doesn't connect to any TVs but it is connected to the dish with coax.

Yes, my DVR is the HS17-500, connected via coax to the dish.

Why doesn’t it have PIP?

Because it is a mini only system and minis don't have 2 tuners.
