DTV "$199 low credit fee" has anyone seen this?

So my customer went through the whole process of setting up new DTV service (Genies,HS17, dish, etc.). Then was told she had to pay a $199 "low credit rating fee". She has great credit (840) so she said "no, I won't pay it" They couldn't override it, etc. Have any of you heard of this recently?

DirecTV has had the Fee based on Credit for years (even before they were acquired by AT&T). However the criteria that determines it is unknown and is pulled by the system, hence why agents cannot override it.

If score is actually over 800, then I would consider them submitting a BBB complaint. That will go to the corporate level, which should be able to determine if the result back is an error or if there are other factors beyond pure credit rating that determines risk factor for DireCTV.

That's right. Based on the customer’s credit history, a non-refundable fee may apply when ordering equipment. I will send you a PM, so I can give you more detailed information about your inquiry. Juan, DIRECTV Community Specialist
