DVR freezing on recording ONLY

Every time I go to watch any recording doesn't matter what network the recording freezes and half the time it will freeze for about 5 minutes and then ask me if I want to delete the recording when it's been Frozen the whole time. I know what's not Network related because it happens on NBC CBS USA Comedy Central and more. I have a brand new HDMI cable the system is free of any clutter and I cannot see any other obvious reasons why this would happen. I just got off the phone with it and they told me it was a network issue when I just told them all of the above. This is the second time I've called regarding this issue and was brush off I am about ready to cancel my whole DirecTV subscription because of very poor customer service. My genie is also very old but when I called to see if I get it replaced I was told I could not. Please offer any advice if available.
