DVR not recording extended times

I set my Genie to record an extra hour for sports event series, because things sometimes run long.  Genie only records to the end of the programmed time and does not record the extra time.  What is wrong with Genie and how do I fix her?

Let us help you look into your genie recording concerns, @fisherPete.

To solve your recording concern, if you scheduled a recording and it went past the allotted time it will not record the ending. To work around this you need to record the post game show as well.

I scheduled the DVR to record 1 1/2 hours beyond the end of the show.  It did not record beyond the end of the show.  Why does the Genie not perform as instructed?  Please read and understand my question before answering.

I'm  glad to help look into your genie recoding concerns @fisherpete.

To solve your recording concern, try to record by the time and not the series to get the extra minutes to record all of the sports events.

To program your DVR with your computer or the app, you must have a Genie® or HD DVR (model R15 or later; model HR20 or later; or a TiVo Series 2 receiver with 6.4a software). You can find out your receiver model by pressing and holding INFO on your remote.
Using your DIRECTV remote
When you find a title you want to record, press the R on your remote to schedule it.

Note: Live broadcasts and sporting events may not end at the scheduled time. You have the option to extend the recording time by up to 3 hours.

So far, I have not received any meaningful answers.  I am recording a "LIVE" event and set the VCR to record beyond the scheduled time.  GENIE failed to record the extra time.

I have a GENIE HR 44-700, so the DVR model comments were misguided.

The further suggestion that I record extra time after the live event is the source of the problem.  I am programming my GENIE to record 1.5, 2 or 3 hours beyond the end of the live program, but GENIE does not do as instructed.

Please do not comment if you are only trying to inflate your post count - your comments are not appreciated.

What "LIVE EVENT" are you recording --are you sure they are Live --the reason I ask when I DVR a NEWS program that is NOT live --the Guide when I press record --will state that it is a live event and do I wish to add more time . Even Though the NEWS PROGRAM is PRE_recorded --No matter how much time I add it will always stop at one hour.
