DVR Records Games on 4K channels I don’t subscribe to then won’t let me watch replay

Hello,

I would very much like to know why DirecTV STILL has this issue: I have a season pass set up for English Premier League soccer. Today was the biggest game of the season , Liverpool vs Manchester City on NBC Sports Networ channel 220.  

My receiver always records EPL games as part of the season pass I have set up - except when a game is aired on a 4K channel, when it tries to record the 4K channel THAT I DO NOT EVEN SUBSCRIBE TO instead of the regular HD channel 220.

DirecTV has had this ongoing issue for at least 3 years! Why has this not been addressed?

This has to be a simple fix - unless DirecTV is purposely allowing this to happen in a cynical attempt to force subscribers into paying extra fees for 4K service.

I have been a DirecTV customer since very beginning in 1997. There are many other options for consumers these days. I can subscribe to a number of streaming services that offer HD DVR service and packages that allow me to pay for only the channels I want, and will record programs that I tell it to.

Can someone tell me why I should not cancel my DirecTV subscription after nearly 25 years?

D*TV DVRS have always done that when you select a season pass or ALL Shows for recordings - the only work around is use the guide and Press RECORD twice on the channel and it will only record from that channel.

Maybe you should cancel if after being a sub for as long as you have and don't know the failing in the DVR software since day one.

Yes, this is a problem. Remember Directv does not charge extra for 4K. If a program is on a regular channel and on a 4K channel, Directv does not know which version you are watching. It's a complicated problem to solve. My guess (and its only a guess) is that if the regular channel has a channel number lower than the 4K channel the regular channel gets recorded, otherwise the 4K one. Maybe someone can confirm this. I suspect goldw1800's advice will work, but of course you need to know in advance this is happening. 

I record all the EPL games but I set it up through the guide, which means it only records the channels I select, so I never have this problem

goldw1800: so basically you’re saying “because that’s the way it is... you should just deal with it or go away.” That’s a completely useless and offensive reply. You yourself call it a “failing” of the DVR, but have no expectation that it can be fixed. Brilliant.

TexasBrit: if the solution is to program every game individually, there isn’t much point to even offering a “season pass,” no? I disagree that this is a complex problem. 

Come on guys, DTV has been at this long enough that they would be able to solve it... if they wanted to.

I don't program each game individually. I use the guide and select a channel that I want to record (say 220). I find the first EPL game (usually at the start of the season). I set up a season pass for that channel. Then I select any other channel I need (say channel 5 which is my local NBC station) and I repeat the process. That way those are the only channels that record. I never get a 4K recording.

Okay thanks for clarifying... thought that was what I’ve done also. 220 & local nbc for PL matches. Thank God NBC doesn’t sprinkle them across CNBC/MSNBC/TNT anymore LOL.

I’ll go back and try to review how I have mine set up, thanks for the advice.

For the record though - I still believe it’s ridiculous that DTV can’t figure this out ;)

Yes, check on it. The problem usually occurs when people set up to record "all channels"or ask for the whole season.
