Equipment options for non Genie HDDVR

I was recently upgraded to a Genie HR54-700 with 5 Mini Clients.  I also have 2 HR24-500 stand alone receivers.  I was not aware of the limitations of the Genie clients with only running 3 of the them at one time so the other two are a complete waste.  What equipment models are still available from DIRECTV to replace these minis with standalone HD DVR units that will work with the Whole Home DVR access?  I have a tech call scheduled for later this week to repair or replace one of the HR24-500s that isn't functioning and am hoping the tech can be more help than DIRECTV call center.  All they want to do is upgrade again and try to lock me into another contract extension.

Apparently directv currently has a low stock of HR24s. Yes, as you have discovered, the HR54 has a limitation of the Genie clients able to be used at once. You can definitely see if the technician has HR24s so that they can install the boxes and replace the whatever amount of Genie clients that you don’t want. If HR24s are not in stock, you may need to turn to solidsignal.com and get the HR24s from there.

Genie (HR54) is a 5 tuner HDDVR. Keeps two tuners to itself for Picture in Picture, leaving 3 for Clients (which don't have their own). Upgrade to 5 clients was definitely a poor order.

Genie does work with regular receivers. The HR24 is the last regular HDDVR, which hasn't been made in years as AT&T was pushing to a client only setup. They are low in stock, if not possibly out.

Your first upgrade to a Genie usually includes so many free Mini Genies. Any regular receivers would be beyond that so not covered by the free offer. Each HDDVR is one-time lease cost $199. No difference in monthly cost and the 24 month agreement starts the day the box is activated, so would only push your agreement (from the Genie upgrade) back a matter of days.

If DirecTV cannot order you the HR24s, you can go through an authorized retailer (such as Sold Signal). They don't have the free upgrade option, but since you've already used that through DirecTV it wouldn't make a difference. Still the one-time lease cost and of course upon activation the agreement date updating.

Mini Genie Client to HDDVR is an upgrade so would always come with a 24 month agreement. Replacing a box for warranty doesn't renew agreement as would be for the same line of equipment (i.e. HR22 to HR24 as both regular HDDVRs).
