External hard drive

I had a HR24 that was developing some hard drive issues.  Directv could not offer me a replacement.  They stated I needed to replace all of my DVRs and use GENIE.

I didn't want to do that as I have more flexibility with the older equipment.

After investigating here I decided to add an external esata drive.   I went with a 1 TB SSD drive, and it has worked flawlessly.

It worked so well that I decided to add one to one of my HR22-100s.  I purchased the same equipment, but I have not had the same success.

As the 22 boots up I see that the external esata shows activity.  The LED on the enclosure blinks for awhile, but stops.

The DVR finishes booting, but boots off of the existing internal drive.

It has been suggested to power up the drive first before powering up the DVR.  This has not helped.

I then tried this on another HR22, but the results were the same.

Any suggestions??

When you powered on the external drive, did you leave it on at least a minute before booting up the HR22?

As Suggested Power off the Hr22 and remove the AC cord from the Hr22 --Plug in the External drive and power it up (For at least 1 minute or more) then re-connect your hr22 to A/c power and it should boot up on the new drive.

I have a ssd 1TB running on my hr22 for 3 years

I let the drive powered on for 5 minutes prior to plugging in the HR22.  It still reacts the same way.

I am wondering if it is the drive or enclosure that is defective.

My next question is this.   Can I move the drive that is operating on the HR24 to the HR22?

Can you swap external devices between DVRs?

I don't want to mess up the existing drive.

Yes, you can swap drives between the HR22 and HR24 without the 22 erasing the content from the 24 when booting up. However, do be aware that recordings will not play since the Receiver ID isn’t the same between the two receivers.

The programs are marked as available to be rewritten by the DVR.

Possible it's not happy with the encloser --That has been known to cause you're problem.

I use this on my Hr22
