Genie and Universal Controllers Won’t Program or Work

My Directv genie and universal remote won’t work. I’ve tried to program them following the directions exactly already but nothing happens or comes up on the screen. I also reset the receiver and reset the remotes but it still doesn’t do anything. Please help me.
