I have had an HR54-3000 for about 7 years now with an AM-21 and had no issues ever until 2 months ago. I had a new roof put on and they pulled my Sattelite down to do it. I had it disconnected for about a month. Upon reinstalling my dish, the HR54 will not even recognize the AM21. I have 2 spares as well as the AT&T Local Channel gizmo. It doesn’t see either one, I am wondering if my USB port is bad or faulty??? Please note I did Not have to reactivate my devices via the website after I got everything hooked back up.
Your USB port could definitely be faulty. One question, the HR54-300 does not exist, so can you recheck the model number and post back again? Additionally, you should try a red reset button on the HR54 receiver (side by the access card).
I have an HR54-500 with a 3TB HD, thus a HR54-3000. I am an engineer and have had DTV since the early 90’s. I definitely know how to do a reset. I have done multiple resets, multiple OTA setups, nothing makes a difference now. When you plug in the USB cable if power is applied to the AM21 you should get pop up on the screen saying OTA box has been connected, I don’t get that, but that could be a SW issue.

The -500 is the manufacture code as in who made it. Has nothing to do with the HDD.
Genie has a 1TB built-in. Replacing the internal (violation of Terms of Service) or using an external doesn't change who made it.
It is HR22 thru HR24 that have the 500GB, with 320GB before that. And the Genie-2 (HS17) has 2TB, though after the first run plus revised model HR54R1 they no longer have eSATA ports so no using an external anymore.
I know all of this and none of it matters. I have most likely forgotten more about DTV receivers than you will ever know. All I give a crap about is getting my OTA to work again. I will pull the board soon and troubleshoot the USB circuit at board level on my scope.
Juniper was simply offering confirmation on the model number (and how it does not directly correlate to the HDD storage). No reason for you to get aggressive.
If you "know" all of this then it shouldn't be difficult for you to provide correct info. It matters not your bragging you've forgotten more than some of us may never know. But posting info that is certainly not even close to correct can cause confusion for others trying to help.
At least "give a crap" about providing the right info then something made up. Being an engineer I would suspect you got annoyed over the years when someone provided you wrong info that made it that much harder or took longer to resolve something.
I would caution against pulling the board as while the HR54 remains returnable than taking it apart is not supposed to be permitted for the consumer. Unlike the AM21 which is an owned accessory, all Genies since the first (HR34) have been lease-only meaning they are owned by DirecTV as they discontinued the purchase to own options with the Genie release.

Also Genies shouldn't be on eBay as they are not owned. Since the original Genie HR34, they have been lease only.

Thanks for that additional info. Could definitely be a SW issue or USB port issue (voltage/power related).

Could be that since the AM21 and the LCC don't work with the HS17 that DTV is removing support in the software.

That would really be terrible, but since the AT&T merger debacle it would not surprise me. Ughh!
However I don’t think that is the issue. None of the OTA’s have ever worked with the Genie, thus why I don’t have one.

AT&T sold off 30% of DTV and no longer handles the day to day operations.

Anybody on here still running the AM-21 with the HR-54? I rolled the dice and ordered another one from EBay just to test a third unit.
