@sportman13

Call DirecTV and order a wireless Mini Genie Client for an additional room.

The WVB will be automatically be added to the order as a wireless Client cannot work without it.

This is tech installed, so they set it up for you.

As long as you don't already have 3 Clients, this should be all you need.

I can certainly empathize with someone that's having a hard time understanding how this stuff works. But posting the same questions over and over and over in multiple forums/groups is not helpful. I'm tempted to shut this one down since his questions have already been more than answered at DBSTalk.

As I understand, you already have the HR44. If so, then just order a wireless Mini Genie Client.

Don't worry about the Gemini. That is too new for DirecTV and is primarily for DIRECTV STREAM. And it appears not to work with your HR44 anyways.

You cannot choose between HR44 and HR54, they are both Genie. The HR54's added feature is supporting a wired 4K Mini Genie (C61K), so doesn't apply to you.

The Genie-2 (HS17) can be ok for a 1 or 2 TV household, but I normally don't suggest it. It forbids other receivers, only allowing clients which can cause issues. Also you would lose all the recordings on your HR44 as they do not transfer.

A Gemini cannot be activated with an HR44.

So order just a wireless Mini Genie Client.

DIRECTV Gemini: Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use Gemini with my HR44?

Right now, DIRECTV’s systems won’t let a Gemini be activated with an HR44. It’s just not possible to do. That may change in the future, but I won’t count on it.

I'm afraid we're trying to help someone that simply cannot or will not understand. We went through a similar experience with sportman 10 years ago.

Those DirecTV dealers are 3rd parties. Unfortunately they are not always the best informed on the equipment, especially with the Gemini as it is too new for the satellite service.

You keep your HR44 in one room and add the wireless Mini Genie Client to the 2nd room. Or have a wired Client instead to save you the $99 cost.

You only need 2 Clients if you were to "upgrade" to the Genie-2 (HS17). That is a Headless Server tower design, meaning it does not go on a TV itself. This option is not suggested as would just confuse matters I feel.

@Juniper You're being led down a rabbit hole.

@sportman13 Your questions have been answered in numerous forums. It's time to simply call DirecTV and get your system set up for you. This stuff is complicated and you don't seem to be able to figure it out on your own and nobody has been able to educate you. Call DirecTV and rest easy.
