Having trouble setting up new R15-100 receiver

We have had a R15-100 receiver that has worked well for years.  We have a very simple setup and everything was fine until the hard drive starting having some issues.

I bought an exact replacement model and I'm having trouble setting it up.  It went to the blue initialization screen and then there was a "popping noise" and it crashed.  All it will do now is go to a diagnostic screen where everything checks out fine if I run diagnostics.

Before you tell me "Directv no longer supports these receivers", I will say that everything was fine with the exact same receiver until very recently, so I'm pretty sure I can get it to work.

Does the hard drive need to be formatted perhaps?  It came with a brand new access card, is that possibly the issue?

Appreciate the help, thanks.

How to BIST.pdf (solidsignal.com)

Step 4 goes into the Built-In Self Test (BIST). The next page goes over the Advanced Tests Menu. If you can get into these, then that is probably your last chance to revive the box. But that may only be a matter of hours or days that you get access to the recordings when the drive is going out.

As for the MPEG-2 shutdown, that can happen any day for you. It should have already completed, but both the pandemic and internal challenges did slow it down. When time just make sure to request a "MPEG Swap". Do not say "upgrade", otherwise you are guaranteed a 24-month service agreement. That way you can avoid an unnecessary agreement for something that is required, plus keep your upgrade if you want to use it within the next year or two before it resets.
