Help with chromecast on gemini box
I have a new gemini box that says it has chromecast
built in. In the apps section, there is no chromecast
app like there was in my genie box. But when I click
on the cast button on my phone or computer, I see a
chromeast connection with the name assigned to the
gemini box. When I click it, it says connecting for
a while but then does not connect.
I spent an hour on the phone with two different directv
people. They spent that time giving me what I believe to
be incorrect information. Here are some of the things
they told me.
1. since the chrome cast app does not appear when
clicking the apps button I needed to d/l the chromecast app from play store.
tried that and the app on the play store said
"built in" and the only option was to uninstall
it.
2. then they told me that I must log in to google for
it to work. I was logged in. It was clear that I
was in the play store. I could see my picture in
in the upper right corner of the screen indicating
that I was signed in. I could also see my apps
and apps that needed upgrades.
3. then the said i need to download the app on my tv not
on the gemini box.
I knew this was wrong so I didn't even try
4. then i had to leave home so they said they would
email instructions on how to access chromeast.
the email was a link to a directv page that said
not one word about chromecast.
One thing that I thought might be the issue is that
the gemini box is connected to the network via
ethernet. I was told by both people that this could
NOT be the problem.
Please, can someone here tell me how to use chromecast
on the gemini box?
THANX!!!!

I don't understand why I can't talk to some expert at DirecTV. I tried callng (Edited per community guidelines) dismal results. Nobody here seems to have the answer. I suspect the gemini box may be bad, but DirecTV doesn't want to admit that. So here I sit. I've now put back my original chromecast device so I can chromecast again. But I was planning to use that device elsewhere since the gemini has chromecast "built in".

I went into Google home on my phone, it had previously found the DTV device, but it cannot connect. Looks like it worked at one time, because it found that and an Nvidia shield.

Hi there. We understand your frustration. Since Chromecast is built-in on the Gemini device, please make sure to have a Wi-Fi router that consolidates your 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz networks. The device also has to be on the same bandwidth to be recognized and connected.

I'VE BEEN TOLD 3 TIMES NOW-ONCE IN THIS STRING OF POSTS IF YOU WANT TO READ IT-THAT AN ETHERNET CONNECTION FOR THE GEMINI IS OK!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ARE YOU NOW SAYING THAT IT MUST BE WIFI. GIVE ME A BREAK.
I finally decided to try wifi. so i unplugged the ethernet and set up the gemin on the same wifi band with my phone an computer. same result. I can see what looks like the gemini box in the device list when i click on the cast icon, and it says connecting, but it never connects.
I'll ask again for the umpteenth time-how do i talk to someone at DirecTV who reallyh understands the ins and outs of this device. I've spent most of two days on this now and that's ridiculous.

You can certainly use ethernet instead of WiFi. But the device you're to link via Chromecast has to be connected to the same network. One can be ethernet and one can be WiFi, as long as it's the same network.

Apologies for the inconvenience. Kindly separate the bands before trying. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

What does "separate the bands" mean?

The lower 2.4 GHz band offers a longer range at lower data rates, while 5 GHz offer much faster speeds. Splitting your Wi-Fi frequencies can help improve your network coverage. Lynie, DIRECTV Community Specialist

For pete's sake what does that have to do with the problem. Is there no one who can tell me how to contact someone at DirecTV who can hep. I think the box is faulty . Calling support did no good at all. Does anyone know how to contact a DirecTV executive. I'm sure they could find someone to help IF THEY WANT TO.

When I click on DIRECTVhelp it sends me to a web DirectvHelp web page. It seems to have a list of items one of which opens into what appears to be a copy of the posts in this thread. Am I supposed to do something there? If so, what?
