How to hook up a new SONY TV to my Directv
I had to replace my SAMSUNG TV and opted for a Sony smart tv. From what I understand you set the TV for channels 3, or 4 and select the input Cable/Satellite). I am using the Yellow, Red, White cable to hook up the tv to the cable box. The TV asked for the name of
my service provider And I entered Directv. A message appeared saying the type of cable box HR44-500) was not recognize. I do net
get any signal.

If your new TV doesn't have the RCA jacks, one of the options is getting a converted box for RCA. The converted box will be connected via HDMI to your TV, and it'll have the RCA connections to hook up your receiver.

No, you do not set the tv to a channel, you must select the correct tv input for those yellow, red, white cables. It’s probably called video 1 or something similar because the yellow cable is for composite video (the red and white cables are sound). However, those yellow, red and white cables is nearly the worst way to connect your tv to the receiver. You are missing out on high definition. Get yourself an hdmi cable if you don’t already have one and use that to connect receiver to tv. Once connected, again it will require you select the right tv input.

You need to set the TVs input to composite although why you are using it when you can use an HDMI cable and get HD is unknown.

Use an HDMI cable connection. Provides both audio and HiDef video via one cable.

Thanks for comments. I am one of several users who had their HDMI port go out
on the Directv receiver. Which is why I resorted to using the RCA connections, which
worked good on my last TV. This TV does not have the RCA jacks. You have on jack for
all 3 connections. But I wonder if the cable is configured properly.

Why not get the DirecTV Receiver replaced? It's free if you have their Equipment Protection Plan, otherwise only $20 for shipping.

You won't get HiDef video using the RCA jacks.

It would be cheaper to have DirecTV replace your Receiver than buy an RCA-to-HDMI converter box.

Doesn’t the HR-44 have component video out? That would be better than composite video plus provide high definition.

I have been trying to hook up the RCA cable (Yellow, Red, white) from the Directv cable box to the new TV we just purchased, The HDMI input on this cable box stopped working after a storm several years ago, but we were satisfied with the RCA connection
The Sony TV does not have the three RCA jacks, so I have a conversion cable to the
mini-jack on the TV. I suspect it may take a special cable as the Sony TV does not
get the signal. The TV can turn the box off and on, but does not get a signal.
I may try the conversion cable with the box.

Also, we can try the conversion cable keeping in mind that the Sony TV doesn't have the 3 RCA jacks. Once you try it, please let us know how it goes to review further options like replacing the Genie receiver, so you can use the HDMI cable to get all your favorite channels in HD.

You do not use channel 3/4 as that is for connecting a much older device like VCR as goes into the antenna input.
You connect DirecTV by HDMI. You then change input to the correct one (HDMI-1, HDMI-2, etc.).
If your HDMI port on the DirecTV box is damaged, then you use the A/V connection. Change TV's input to A/V.
HDMI, A/V, and antenna/channel numbers are different inputs on the TV.
A warranty replacement of the box is $19.95 delivery. Best to do as HD was not formatted for SD viewing so can be sub-par, especially newer things.

As a note, before doing a warranty replacement I would suggest catching up on your recordings. They do not copy from the replaced box.
