HR54/500 Ethernet Loop - How to fix? Internet Connection Failing

Greetings All,

I have a persistent problem with my HR54/500 where it will lose its internet connection.  The problem is intermittent and after resetting the DVR will remain stable for as little as 30 minutes up to about 36 hours.  When I go into the Genie Information Menu I get a couple items worth mention.

First is an STB Services Port alert.  Either 818 or 100

The other is Ethernet Loop Detected.

The DVR is ethernet cable to a Linksys Velop Node and has a dedicated IP Address as well as device prioritization.  Linksys believes the issue is with the DVR.

When I go into the Linksys system control I can see that the DIRECTV Mediashare Rendere is offline.  I also see a TMM RVU Client Manageable Device that is also offline.  Is this the DVR competing with itself?

Suggestions on how to fix this would be greatly appreciated

Do you have other directv receivers and are they also connected to the internet?

STB service port is no longer used. RVU is a TV that is DTV ready meaning is has the mini client built in so it doesn't need its own mini.

To answer the earlier question:

I have the base unit plus two minis/satellites.

thank you for the clarification on the RVU.

HR54 should be connected Direct to your Router/Switch --IF you have a Firewall those ports you list should be open. The issue is caused by your Router .

Check your router settings and also Check for any linksys Router Firmware updates and apply those.

You may also Try Setting your genie to a STATIC IP address --using your remote --menu settings and change the Ip address to one of your liking.  Also you could disconnect the LAN cable and set the HR54 to wireless --and see if that changes anything.

One way or another you have more than one path connected to the internet. Usually that's because you have another receiver connected as well as the HR54 but since you don't have multiple receivers it's not that.

I'm not familiar with your mesh router so I can't be certain where the problem lies. goldw1800 might have useful suggestions. Disconnect the ethernet cable and set the HR54 to wireless, does that change anything?

Greetings All,

As was suggested, I disconnected the ethernet cable, reset the wireless connection, and on the router set a dedicated connection and priority status.  That has resolved the issue.  I waited a few days to see if there were any failures and it has been stable for the past 96 hours.  Thank you for your help!

I had the same issue. I have HR44-500 genie, three C41 genie minies , and a DirecTV wireless media bridge (wireless bridge allows the C41 to connect to the HR44 w/o needing a coax connection in each room). My "media box" is in my basement.  This box has all the coax and Ethernet cables - my house is prewired for both. When we moved into our new home, I brought my equipment with me. I also use my own modem and router (separate devices) for my Internet connection.  I also used a few Netgear switches so more than one device in any room can be connected via an Ethernet connection.  I have a 12-port switch in the basement that is connected to my router – that is where ALL my Ethernet connections are made to each room that has an Ethernet port.

Anyway, back to the topic: I saw the DACA (DCAU1R0-01) was connected to my DirecTV cables via a 4-way splitter - it was attached to one of the 4 outputs.  I also saw an Ethernet cable attached to the DACA and assumed it needed to be connected to my router.  My HR44 is in the living room. Since my house is prewired, I had access to an ethernet port near my TV/DirecTV HR44.   I connected a Netgear switch so the HR44 and the TV could both use Ethernet.  The connection goes like this: Ethernet port behind TV connected to switch with 1st Ethernet cable>HR44 connected to switch with 2nd Ethernet cable>TV connected to switch with a 3rd Ethernet cable.  THIS is what caused the loop.  I did not realize that the HR44 does NOT need a DACA because it is built in.  A "loop" means there is multiple connections between 2 network switches or two ports on the same switch connected together (https://accedian.com/blog/identify-fix-network-switching-loop/).  Mine was connected to my network via the DACA (in the basement), AND it was connected to same network via the Ethernet cable that I plugged into my HR44 - connected to same network at 2 locations.  I searched high and low for an answer with my exact equipment but could not find anything specific.  Once I learned what the DACA was for, and that the HR44 did not need one, I decided to remove the DACA.

I resolved the loop issue by disconnecting the DACA from my router, unplugged the DACA power supply, and removed the coax cable that connected the DACA to the 4-way splitter, leaving ONLY the cable that leads to my living room connected to one of the splitter “output” ports - the cable coming from the satellite is connected to the splitter “input” port.  (I will be removing that splitter as soon as my DirecTV-approved coupling comes in because I don't need the splitter since I removed the DACA, and none of the other coax cables need to be connected because the DirecTV wireless media bridge handles the connection.) The loop issue was resolved and my equipment is working better. I hope this helps someone who can't find the answer on the net!
