I have an older remote and box. when the other boxes were replaced, this one stayed ...

How do I find the remote codes to program to this tv that a friend just gave me?

What model number receiver? Also, what TV did your friend give you? There are many different model DIRECTV receivers, and there are 3 different layouts for these receivers. So, without a model number and TV brand, it is very difficult to further assist.

The codes for the TV are specific to the remote, not the box. Primarily comes down to if the remote is an RC6X (white universal) or RC7X (Genie or "peanut" style).

Remote Control Code Lookup (directv.com)

What models are each of your boxes?

Which one wasn't replaced?

Why were the boxes replaced?

Just in case anything else you should be aware of down the road.

The TV is a Sharp ... Not sure how to find the model. probably 30" diagonal.

The receiver has R22-100 on the reset-button door.

The clicker has RC66RX on it.

Ok that is an RC6X series. Follow the lookup tool I posted and get the codes for that exact model.

You were able to keep your R22? Very lucky. That is the special model. It is HD capable as long as at least one other box is H or HR. Though if you have it set to the HD channels, recordings will take up more space of course. Too many were convinced to replace an R22 as the agents (even legacy DirecTV ones) were not very familiar with this special model.

All good info, thanks!

I can't locate a model number on the tv, so I'll try a few codes until one works.

I know that I need to do a progression with the remote keys, but I don't have the info card any more (lost in a move). Do you know it, or where to look it up?

@DJHoppy

If the code lookup tool is not clear on the instructions, if you go into the receiver's menu it will have an option for the remote control. Then you can see on screen the instructions.
