Is DirecTV streaming better than satellite?

I have had satellite for a long time. The receiver often loses connection to the AV receiver among other issues. I have been thinking about leaving DirecTV and going to streaming only. Curious about what would be lost or what would  DirecTV streaming be like.

Hi, @Jeffmotto. We appreciate your interest. With DIRECTV STREAM, you can easily stream through the DIRECTV app using your compatible device with a reliable internet connection. On the other hand, DIRECTV Satellite requires a dish with a 24-month contract agreement. Visit https://www.directv.com/compare/directv-vs-directv-stream/ Roland, DIRECTV Community Specialist

Streaming does not have the exact same channels as the satellite service, though the packages are rather similar. So check your must-have channels before making any decisions.

Depends on the dependability of your internet to go streaming-only. If internet goes out, or just too much bandwidth in use, than streaming goes with it through satellite still works.

I would look into streaming devices and any information on their reliability with your AV receiver. That way you don't switch but just end up having the same issue. You can also discuss in the forum the AV connection problem as well as other issues you have in case any other fixes or guidance may be given.

I just switched to the via internet service from satellite after 22 years. In all honesty, I had waited to make the move for the last two years and was investing in separate internet connections from different providers, to ensure as best as I could that I wouldn't have too many outages except in extreme cases, doing my research, and simply waited for the right time. With DirecTV phasing out satellite service, that time finally came last week and I got my devices to replace my receivers last night.

Outside of a few reboot cycles when I was setting one of them up, the experience is quite similar to what we have on satellite. In my case, I noticed two local channels, the PPV channels, and Music Choice channels missing, beyond that it's virtually the same. Hopefully, since their phasing out satellite service, whatever is missing from the via internet service will migrate.

Although I really like these streaming devices DirecTV has, I wish they had a way to disable the Are you still watching pop-up on the Roku app. Had they, I probably wouldn't have gotten these devices seeing as I already own streaming hardware, but at least I was able to disable it and can watch sports for hours without being interrupted. I'm really enjoying the unlimited cloud DVR and profiles for the family, but they should add the ability to pre set the start and end times on recordings and the ability to manually record as they have on satellite. As for the missing PPV channels, that's less of an issue for me now seeing as the fights I cover (I'm a Boxing writer) are on apps nowadays, but it would be nice to have an option for PPV in the rare instance that they aren't available on apps or the out of market sports packages as well. To be honest though, I am really hoping both for the good of the sport as well as my expenses that PPV will be the next to be phased out because it's not a value to consumers anymore. Hopefully DirecTV will make the NBA package available for via internet for next season. Thanks and I'm looking forward to being with DirecTV for many more years.

So long as Broadband Internet is not available to all of the US, DTV sat will be around. AFAIK the only DTV streaming device is the C71KW for use with the DTV streaming service.
