LG suggests not using DTV receiver for sound bar

I am not getting the quality sound through my sound bar with DIRECTV. The Voice is softer than the music and does not adjust like it does through the TV. LG says it’s because I am using a Receiver. I cannot adjust the volume automatically. Has anyone had the same problem? Do you know of a good fix. Leaving DIRECTV is NOT an option.

DTV receivers don't have volume controls they are line out that need amps like the TV.

Hello @67gmail! Thank you for reaching back out.

You may want to check the audio settings on the receiver:

  • Press the MENU button
  • Arrow down to "Settings"
  • Arrow over to "Audio" and press SELECT
  • Arrow down to Dolby Audio and press SELECT

You will have the option to turn Dolby Audio on or off.

Also, if your soundbar has cables, please ensure that they are fitted in tightly.

We hope this helps

@67gmail are you certain that the LG rep got confused over the word "receiver?"

A "receiver" can be used to describe a piece of component audio/video equipment that usually has a radio receiver integrated with an amplifier.  A lot of people use these to route all of their video/audio outputs to before they go to speakers.  A Soundbar can be treated as "a speaker" in this sort of arrangement.

A receiver can also be a piece of AV equipment provided by a video provider, normal a "TV Receiver" or a "DIRECTV receiver" which can be hooked up to an AV receiver as described in the first paragraph.
