LOCKING RECORDINGS ON A DTV DVR, IS IT POSSIBLE?

My 90 YO mother is living w us and she's got itchy fingers and likes her tv screen clean, so she's deleting recordings on our DVR before we've watched them. We've asked her to stop but to no avail. SO IS THERE A WAY TO LOCK RECORDINGS ON MY DVR? WE HAVE A SYSTEM THAT WAS INSTALLED HERE ABOUT 6 YEARS AGO AND WORKS WELL EXCEPT FOR THIS ONE NEED.  JJ

No, not possible, unless you keep her box from accessing your recordings.

What are your DVR/Receiver model numbers?

You can set recordings to "Keep Until I Delete". But that just prevents the DVR from deleting the recordings if it needs more space. If you have a Genie setup and your mom's box is a Mini Genie Client, then there's nothing you can do. Mini Genies are simply a remote extension of the main Genie DVR.

Post back with your box model numbers and we'll try to help.

If you have multiple HDDVRs, you can lock out "remote deletion". That way you cannot delete from another room, having to be at that exact DVR itself.

However, if you have any Mini Genie Clients, those are extensions of the Genie so always have full access (think of it as multiple TVs on one box).

Unfortunately, there is not a way to prevent direct deletion. You can always delete what is on the box you are actually at. It would be a nice feature to have with the parental controls (be it young child or elderly/stubborn adult), but so far is not something that seems to be a priority for DirecTV.
