New customer // 4K service questions

Hello! I just signed up for DIRECTV Satellite service via the DIRECTV website. I picked the Ultimate package, and noticed that the only option for equipment was a Genie HD DVR that is included. Is this 4K? I have a 85 inch Sony 4K TV and want to make sure I have 4K programming. How can I ensure I will receive a 4K receiver? Is the Genie receiver a 4K receiver already? Thanks for any input!

Thanks for all the input guys. I’ll stick with the setup for now, and drop it if need be later on. I have a general question though. How is the picture quality on the receiver in general?, 4K aside. Reason I ask is I currently have YouTube TV and the streaming quality is trash, I have 1 gigabit AT&T fiber internet and I stream YouTube TV on Apple TV 4K hardwired ethernet connection and it’s so bad. Crazy pixilated on my 85 inch Sony TV. I have tried DIRECTV Stream as well and the picture quality is so bad even with the Osprey box. I used to have Xfinity at my old house and it’s not available in my area so I chose to go with a steaming service but it’s been bad since day 1. I know all about compression and whatnot. So I’m hoping that by switching to Satellite, and using a traditional cable box and not reliant on an internet connection I get good picture quality like I had with Xfinity.

Picture quality is fine. Depends on the programming on how high the resolution is.

Any pixelation should be rare as long as dish is properly alligned. Though be aware by nature of delivery method, heavy enough weather can affect the signal. And setup can be internet connected for additional content (On Demand) as many channels have their own library. Though be aware, it is more common now for networks to disable FF/REW for On Demand (the networks get away with as not delivered by the satellite itself so treat it like on their individual website).

Make sure to carefully read the order confirmation. It will break down the promotions you are getting for the 1st year (full cost 2nd year) and remind you of the 24 month service agreement. Free premiums (i.e. HBO) for the 1st 3 months roll to cost. So if you don't want to keep them (or just certain ones) remember to call and remove what you no longer want before the 3 months ends.

Thanks for the info! I appreciate it as always. Yes I’m aware of the weather related interruptions when it comes to satellite. I used to have Dish Network, and DIRECTV satellite in the past about 8-9 years ago or so. Looks like I can use the DIRECTV app and sign in with my login on my Apple TV so that’s a good backup when the weather is bad outside. I live in California so im pretty lucky majority of the year. It’s nice that I can also sign into the app on other TVs in my house that don’t have a receiver. But again watching DIRECTV on the app via my Apple TV 4K is pixelated on 1080p content. Hope the receiver fixes this issue.
