New installation genie 2, I mini and 3 regular boxes
I have been having the hardest time trying to figure out how neighbors are connecting to my internet, even using extenders. I changed every wifi password, ssid and router and they still keep getting In. Direct tv told me I was password protected but clearly it's something else and they don't let up. The genie is not and was not connected to a TV when it was installed. We moved the tv from one room to another and back. It seems like something has been left open. When I change passwords they come out look and get right back on, I even saw walkers trying to connect to the internet, I moved the box so the signal is weak but the extenders and savvy still get in. What am I doing wrong? There's no connection to anything on the genie 2 I disconnected the mini 2 and nothing else is connected to the router.
Hellpppp me please it's frustrating to give the neighborhood free wifi when I pay almost $300.00. Is the old connection still on?? There was a tech that said the boxes don't match, what could that mean.. Please help me.....

If by genie 2 you mean an HS17 then you can't connect "regular boxes" Maybe you mean an HR54 - please check.
Your internet and password have nothing to do with directv. If people are connecting it's to your router. Have you changed the router password? What else is connected to the router?

Thank you for responding. It's the HS17 and it shows up on my network ssid as directv WVB with numbers. In smart manager it says that I have 2.4 directv set top box don't know where that is or what it looks like, I thought they removed that during the dreaded upgrade. I also have a router that I know does 2g and 5g.
Looks like my set up was botched and no one is trying to help me. I feel like a crazy lady when I know for a fact I'm not. What are they connecting to??? It seems like there's an open network or maybe the invisible set top box. I'm afraid to factory reset my router because I don't know what settings should be on after the reset.

The HS17 has the WVB built in and it is used to connect the C41W/C61W wireless minis on a separate WiFi network that only they can use.

DirecTV boxes cannot be used to connect non-DirecTV equipment to the internet. They don't have that function. The main box connects to your home internet for On Demand services only. It can connect wired or wireless, but has no way to share that with non-DirecTV boxes. It can only share that with your other DirecTV boxes
The Genie-2 does have a wireless video bridge (WVB) built in, but that is not an internet connection but how your wireless Mini Genie Clients (C41W or C61W) connect to the main box.
All you've mentioned is seeing people in the area ("walkers"). What evidence do you have that your internet is specifically being used?

Hello @directmetohelp1
Thanks to @TexasBrit for the quick and accurate response.
As mentioned above, the Internet service is not related to DIRECTV, in this case it is necessary to contact your internet provider.
If you need any assistance with your TV receivers, feel free to contact us anytime.

@TexasBrit Directv did the dreaded "Upgrade". A visiting tech (he didn't know much) did tell me that some boxes were 4k and some televisions weren't. I had 4 tv's the main tv lvr m was not working at the time so we used the kit tv to set up the upgrade and moved the tv back to the kit @Juniper trust me I know..... they walk by looking for that open network to connect to. I unplugged the genie mini and moved the genie 2 and was yelled at from across the street it clearly blocked a signal, it's happening! @Juan I live near shady characters and in all honesty I believe a directv tech installed the extender of my neighbor that I see on my wifi ssid networks with her full name/ext. It's a rooming house and I felt something was fishy when I saw him there. My main concern is how are they getting through and how do I stop it. ATT doesn't seem to have the answer either but maybe just maybe somebody out there has the answer because clearly something is wrong.
I can't sleep.

The only boxes that are 4K are C61K. They require the 3rd generation of the regular Genie line (HR54) or the Genie-2 (HS17) as the main Genie.
What do you mean by "visiting" tech? Was this a tech appointment you scheduled with DirecTV? If not, that is very concerning.
If people nearby are connecting to your internet, that has absolutely nothing to do with DirecTV. That would be your internet equipment.
Moving your DirecTV equipment shouldn't affect their internet. Something else is going on. And if someone were stealing your connection, they wouldn't yell at you as they wouldn't want you to know.
Either something else was installed with your internet, or other devices are causing interference with someone else's wireless signal. In either case, they have no way to connect to internet through DirecTV.

@Juniper, may I ask a question you seem knowledgeable. The direct tv top set box is listed as a device i own like my computer phone etc. It's giving off a 2g signal I know because I asked direct tv to disconnect it but had to reconnect because I lost 2g service. I was told that I needed this device to watch on demand. I thought the new equipment HS17 was supposed to replace any old equipment. Do you know why this is still attached and giving off a 2g signal, should I still have this and do you know why they have it listed as a device and not equipment??? I would
appreciate your help.

DirecTV boxes have not been owned since the launch of the original Genie (HR34). So the Genie-2 (HS17) is lease-only (owned by DirecTV) and returned upon deactivation.
Since the 2nd generation Genie (HR44), all main Genies have a wireless Cinema Connection Kit (CCK) built-in. This allows them to connect to your home internet for optional On Demand services. It operates on both 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz. Only connects if you've provided the name/password for your router of course.
You can connect any HDDVR/Genie to internet for On Demand. You don't specifically need the Genie-2 (HS17), and wired or wireless connection is your choice.
The Genie-2 (HS17) also has a wireless video bridge (WVB) built-in. This allows it to connect to any wireless Mini Genie Clients (C41W and C61W) you might have. This is the only model with a WVB built-in.
Even if you are not connecting either of those wireless options, my understanding is the signal itself is not completely shut off.
The Genie-2 (HS17) is a Headless Server tower. It is the HDDVR for the setup, but just doesn't go on a TV itself so might list differently in DirecTV's system compared to a more traditional HDDVR or regular Genie. The Mini Genie Clients are not receivers (no tuners of their own) so cannot work without the HS17 as they are extensions of it. So if you removed the HS17, your service wouldn't work at all.
As the Genie-2 (HS17) forbids regular receivers, I prefer a regular Genie with 2 HDDVRs for more reliability and capability. But this new box can be fine for some.
