No sound after pause

This started happening about 5 weeks ago I'm tired of talking to chatbots I'm tired of going through their tips and their suggestions and I'm tired of talking to somebody in India about it.

I have done everything that they have wanted me to do and it still does not solve the problem the only way it will work is if I unplugged the HDMI cord plug it back in then the sound would come on so I replaced the cord as they suggested it is still doing it does not matter what channel or what show or what DVR show I am watching if I put it on pause and then hit resume I get no sound..

Can somebody please help me so I don't have to go through that robobot chat or trying to explain to somebody that doesn't know English and is only reading off a computer screen

We are having the same issue, started happening a couple of months ago.  When we're watching something and pause it for more than a few seconds, when we resume watching, the sound is gone.  We have to turn the tv off then back on and the sound returns.  Happens when watching both live and recorded shows.

Same here, but ONLY happens once the screensaver / ATT commercial screen appears and you try to press the play button again. If I pause for a few seconds before screensaver appears, and press play, the sound is still fine. Most definitely must be a DirecTV update quirk.. this happens on multiple TVs.. if you switch the TV input away from DirecTV and then back to DirecTV again, it clears the problem. What I find strange is that once you're in AT&t screen saver mode, you have to press the play button 3x to restart the show! AT&t should read these forms and fix the problem...

Interesting; we typically pause for a while to take a phone call or whatever so typically it's paused for several minutes or more so the screensaver always comes on.  I will test that theory by pausing for a few seconds and then resuming to see if the sound comes back on and I will also try switching the input as well to see if that resolves the issue.  Thank you for the input.

Ours started right after buying a new Samsung TV last week. Didn't have a problem before that. Also it won't stay paused. Have to turn off tv to get sound back.

I'm not talking to DirecTV customer service I'm not going to use their chat option no more either because all it is is a bot. I just threw out an HP printer because of their same customer service practices. I'm just waiting for my contract again to get the (Edited per community guidelines) away from you guys

Just a follow up to the problem. It was caused by the buffer being full. We reset the box by pushing the red button on the side and it went back to normal. The new tv had nothing to do with it.

I never told you that the problem was resolved I'm still having a problem. This is a prime example of what I mean about your customer service

To debobf - DIRECTVhelp was responding to "rottonskippy", not you.  Read the thread.  And your "HP printer" comment had nothing to do with anything on this thread.  If you don't have something constructive to add to this particular issue/thread, peace out.

I can get the sound to work after pausing/screen saver.  After pressing the Play button, the screen saver disappears and the show you're watching comes back, but it is still paused.  Pressing the 10-second rewind button backs it up and the sound resumes upon playback.

@rottenskippy did you lose any of your recordings when you reset the DVR?
