The protection plan doesn't cover lighting strikes, you have to call DTV to replace them,  Your home owners insurance should cover the costs involved.

If the DirecTV box was damaged because of a lightning strike, then the protection plan doesn't cover it. Falls under the "Act of God" clause.

Before calling DirecTV, what are the models of every box you have and which one is not working?

Is the box not powering on at all or having some other issue? Verified surge protector, power cord, and outlet to be sure nothing else in the chain was the problem?

OP says the TVs were damaged also.  It's a home insurance issue.

I agree with TVs also affected that most likely box itself is out. But if they were on a surge protector or different outlet, then had the small possibility it could be something earlier in the chain that got fried. Just wanted to make sure they got the right equipment taken care of.

Also since most agents try to offer upgrades, wanted to make sure they got guidance before accepting an option that may not be optimal for their setup.
