Old HD DVR

Ok this started yesterday. I have a older generation HD DVR from directv, plus I have a genie and 3 minis. The genie and the minis work fine, but the older HD Reciever suddenly froze up. So I tried rebooting, Now it won't reboot. it just keeps trying to reboot. Has the box finally went kaput!?

Most likely the Internal Hard drive has failed- You could try adding an External estate  HD  -using this

Amazon.com: StarTech.com Hot-Swap Hard Drive Docking Station for 2.5"/3.5" SATA III Hard Drives - External eSATA/USB 3.0 Hard Drive Dock w/ UASP (SDOCKU33EF) , Black : Electronics

Using that connected estata (NOT USB) and a 1 or 2 TB HD Drive That should get you back up and running. Note Should that fail you could also add it to genie with a larger HD to increase you recording storage -

Or if you have the Dtv Protection plan -call and see if they will send a Like for like Replacement --That could be a real frustrating on your part as they no longer have many 2 tuners DVRS and will try to send you a mini or Gemini as a replacement.

Good luck and keep us posted on your progress

sometimes you can get back up temporarily by hitting enter at the 1st screen and go to the diagnostics and choose the long hard drive scan. You might check the rest of the receiver first to be sure you're not wasting your time buying a drive for a receiver with working drive and some other defect. The long HDD scan is very long.

What model is your HDDVR?

A warranty replacement from DirecTV is $19.95 delivery. So if you cannot get your 'old' HDDVR back up and runing you could try this. Ideally it would be an HR24 if any are left in stock, but if not a Mini Genie Client (or possibly the new "Gemini" making an appearance) would be the alternative.

Personally I would pay the one-time lease cost of $199 through Solid Signal or such insetead of delivery of a Mini Genie Client. I will not give up my 2 tuners, dedicated processing, and additional recording space.
