Osprey Stream device for DTV satellite.

I am a previous DTV stream customer. I know have DTV via Satellite with the Genie 2 and the wireless Genie mini.

I have two of the Osprey boxes from when I had stream. If I wanted could I remove the 2 genie mini's and replace them with the 2 Osprey boxes I have?

since the Osprey and the Gemini boxes are the same thing, shouldn't I be able to switch them out?

If so, how would I do it?

No, not possible. Totally different firmware.

so if you have steam and paid 120.00 each for the devices, then decide to go with satellite,  you have to pay another 120.00 each for the exact same devices but only with a different firmware update?

What a joke.

You got it! Firmware controls the box.

Not the point I was making, but, OK

It was more of my displeasure that they want to charge you to buy a whole new device, when it's the exact same as what you've already bought, only with a different firmware. If they chose to couldn't they do an OTA firmware update to that device?

I don't know. Have you contacted support to inquire?

Yeah, I got some guy named Jethro in India. No kidding, Jethro. He knew nothing about the Gemini.

AFAIK the  C71KW mini leased price is $99.  You maybe able to get them to change the C61W to C71KW

The Gemini is still fairly new, at least in naming. So not surprising some agents, especially outsourced ones, are not up to speed on it.

With the new option to use it for either DirecTV (satellite) or DIRECTV STREAM (by internet), not having an easy way for the company to do a firmware update as opposed to buying another box is problematic. Hopefully this is something they have in the works to address the issue in the forseable future.

I absolutely believe they can do an OTA   firmware update. However, that's not a revenue generator for them.

Not possible. There's no ATSC OTA tuner module in that box. It's not a simple "firmware" enhancement.

New DTV sat customers don't pay for the equipment.
