What other receivers do you have, and they do work properly? On the HR24, go to Menu, Repeat Satellite Setup, press the (-) DASH button, and ensure that there are no errors. Also, check signal strength to make sure that is not an issue. Signals on 101, 99, and 103 should all be 85 and above on both timers. If rerunning satellite setup does not ease the issue, put the HR24 in another room that works fine and see if the issue remains.

Your dish maybe needs to be aligned or the HR24 needs to be replaced but DTV no longer has any so you will be upgraded to an HS17 Genie2 with minis.

Hello there. DIRECTV Satellite is a reliable service and a 100% of signal should be received. This error occurred because your receiver wasn’t able to download the guide information from the satellite for more than 4 hours. Please run a system test to find the main error to be addressed.

  1. Select MENU on your remote control.
  2. Select Settings.
  3. Select Info & Test.
  4. Select Run System Test. This may take a few minutes.

Once you run the test, please let us know what error message you find. We are here to help you. Jhonny, DIRECTV Community Specialist

I have an old R15-300 that works just fine on the same dish which is a 18" round Dual LNB. In setup I select 18" round dish with dual LNB and multi-switch.

DTV is shutting down the MPEG2 channels that dish receives so you have to use the free MPEG2 swap to install a new dish and to replace the R15, the HD fee is waived and there is no new 2 yr contract.   The HS17 Genie 2 account will not allow the HR24 either.

I find it odd your HR24 was even there in the first place with an 18 inch dish. DIRECTV would have automatically set you up with an HD dish at the time. Granted, of course, you didn’t purchase the 24 yourself.

Let me clarify. I use my HR24 both at home on an HD dish and in my RV with 18" SD dish. I can get my R15-300 to work fine in the RV and at home, but the HR24 will not complete downloading the satellite info in the RV.

As stated the 18" dish is obsolete when DTV finishes shutting down the MPEG2 channels and it will be up to you to get an HD dish on a tripod /sled mount or a auto aiming HD dish installed on the RV roof.  Just to make sure you are rerunning sat set up and selecting mutiswitch first then selecting the 18" round dish?

DirecTV is shutting down the MPEG-2/SD-only feeds. They stopped offering SD-only service in late 2015. So your R15 and 18" dish are obsolete and must be replaced if you want to continue using service in the RV. You need either a slimline SWM dish on a tripod/sled mount or the Winegard Trav'ler. The box can be an H or HR model (or special R22 since you have at least one H/HR on the account).

You may be able to set the HR24 for the old dish temporarily. But many have already lost access to legacy setups, so best to update sooner rather than later so you don't have to worry about service interuption in the RV.
