Recycling DirecTV Dish

Our house came with a DirecTV dish attached, and none of the recycling centers in our area will recycle them. Having it end up in a landfill is not an option, so, what does DirecTV recommend for the safe disposal of their satellite dishes?

The dish itself goes to metal recycling and the LNB goes to electronics recycling. You can also put up an ad on Facebook Marketplace for a free DIRECTV dish. Someone will definitely respond and be interested.

Is the dish already removed from your roof? If not, either unbolt the dish with the three 1/2 inch bolts or have in your FB marketplace listing that the buyer ‘MUST remove the dish’ from your roof. Don’t unscrew the physical lag nuts securing the pole to the roof because obviously that leads to roof leaks.

Separate dish from LNB, going to metal and electronic recycling respectively. As mentioned, leave mounting plate and those lag nuts to protect against leaks.

Some people like to repurpose those dishes or get an easy replacement (if not outdated), so a free public offer is a good alternative. Repurpose/reuse as it is said.

I applaud you checking options instead of a landfill. If nothing else, leave it where it is installed. Unless you sit outside for hours a day staring at your roof, it shouldn't cause any issues.
