Relocating/ Adding a 2nd TV to a DirectTV via Satellite.

I am 5 hours away and trying to remotely assist my 91 and 90 year old in-laws.  ADTV Service Technician come out the their house this past Friday to move the existing hard wired DTV satellite cable box from their bedroom into their living room to accommodate my father in-law who has now has mobility issues. As I understand it, the current DTV protocol is to set up a mini Genie satellite for the 2nd TV that pulls the main satellite signal from their den DTV satellite Cable box which is hard-wired. My 90 year old father in-law is now having problems using the DTV remote because the “path/sequence” on the remote in the living room to access channels is slightly different than what he is accustomed to on the den remote. Can the DirectTV Service Technician use a splitter and hard wire the 2nd box so that the path/sequence on the remote in the living room is identical to the one on the main cable box in the den? Thanks for any help or suggestions!

The minis are streamed from the Genie so there is no way to fix a timing problem.

@millians

What "path/sequence" issue is he experiencing? The remotes should work the same for their respective boxes.

Each has their own remote, which should be the same type, the RC7X (Genie/peanut style).

The coax has nothing to do with how the remote control works.

If by "remote" you mean the Mini Genie Client, it will never be perfectly in sync with the Genie. Even if it was a dedicated HDDVR, instead of Client, there is still no guarantee.

Thanks to everyone who has posted responses/suggestions on my in-laws issue. I have scheduled a follow up service appointment with DirectTV technician for this afternoon and I will be able to speak (remotely) with him while he is at my in-laws house.  Will update once we hopefully have resolved the issue.

As you keep us posted, could you please clarify what you mean by "path/sequence" and if the remote is the remote control or the Mini Genie Client? I suspect terms are not being used the same for each poster, so we may not all be on the same page.

Thanks Juniper and others for your continued interest. And yes, I am not a great technology person so my terminology describing the issue likely caused the confusion. The good news is our issue has a happy ending. My in-laws had a DirectTV service appointment today with Phil. I was able to speak with him remotely and he quickly grasped their issue. When my 90 year old father in-law turned on the DTV remote in the living room it was going to a main menu on the TV (Vizio) versus going directly to DirectTV which was confusing him. His other TV in the den always goes straight to DirectTV when he hits the power button on the DirectTV remote. Phil went in to the set up on the TV and programmed it to something like “remember last used” which now causes the TV in the living room to start on DirectTV when he hits the power on button on his DirectTV remote. Pretty basic stuff but a little tough to diagnose over the phone from 5 hours away.

Gotcha. It all came down to what input (HDMI-1, HDMI-2, Antenna, etc.) the TV started on. My TV doesn't have a special setting for a default input for that so just starts on the same input as when it shut off.

Thanks for the follow-up and glad it is working for your family.
