Satellite

I want to take my directv receiver camping. Is there a certain kind of satellite that I need to buy to take with us?

Yes, a satellite dish is required to watch DIRECTV. You will need to purchase a SWM 3 LNB along with a Slimline DIRECTV dish. These can be purchased on Amazon for around $150 or from Solid Signal for a bit cheaper. Here are the links to both, depending on which you feel comfortable with.

https://www.amazon.com/DIRECTV-Complete-Portable-Tailgate-Slimline/dp/B07FX2TCBG/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?crid=1VMT5UM3BRUZC&keywords=directv%2Bdish&qid=1647394113&sprefix=directv%2Bdish%2Caps%2C282&sr=8-1-spons&smid=A380AQVAFE6T5Y&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUExMzE2SU1ZRldLS1k0JmVuY3J5cHRlZElkPUEwODI1MjQzMjBNU1pNUkowTVIwSyZlbmNyeXB0ZWRBZElkPUEwNDEzNTAxM1M2QVI2N09ZWDJBRiZ3aWRnZXROYW1lPXNwX2F0ZiZhY3Rpb249Y2xpY2tSZWRpcmVjdCZkb05vdExvZ0NsaWNrPXRydWU&th=1

Do notice that going both the Amazon and Solid Signal route REQUIRE a power inserter. It is possible to take the one you use AT HOME with you, depending on how tech savvy you are. Also, going the Solid Signal route will not only require a power inserter, you will also need the buy the tripod mount separately, which can be purchased here:

Before jumping to purchase, also verify that your receiver is D12 or LATER. Post your RECEIVER MODEL # to verify. Also, clarify if you have a SWM system at home. If not, this may require the changing of the receiver settings when the dish is hooked up to allow the receiver to recognize the new system, rather than the legacy non-SWM setup that was used at your house. (if you have it.)

Before jumping to purchase, also verify that your receiver is D12 or LATER.

D12 is MPEG-2/SD-only. Must be MPEG-4/SD and HD capable, models starting with H or HR. This is because the MPEG-2 feeds are shutting down.
