taking receiver camping
Ten years ago when I had DirecTV it was very simple to take the receiver from home and the extra round dish, look up the settings and set it up. I recently went back to DirecTV satellite and see things have changed. Will it be as simple as before? I have the Genie Gen 3 HR54-500 receiver at home. It appears I need to purchase a Slimline 3 SWM LNB satellite dish and a tripod. Knowing the tilt of the dish, azimuth and elevation of the satellite will the setup be as easy as before. I used a compass and bubble level. Any recommendations of reputable retailers of dish and LNB,.... Thanks for any advice

You're correct. You'll need a Slimline dish. It's not quite as easy to aim as the old simple round dish. Check out my YouTube video showing how ....

Old round dish is MPEG-2/SD-only. Those feeds were shutting down.
Now you need a slimline SWM dish on a tripod/sled mount, or the Winegard Trav'ler.
You can take the HR54 (Genie). Remember though that Clients will not work at home while it is gone. If you have any regular HDDVR (HR20 thru HR24, or special R22) or HD non-DVR receivers (H21 thru H25) it is suggested to take them instead as the Genie was more intended to stay put.
Like before you will not get Regional Sport Networks or locals once outside your home spot beam.
Authorized retailers like Solid Signal are places to check. Just make sure the dish is specifically for DirecTV MPEG-4/HD as some dishes claim to work for multiple providers, but fine print says DirecTV MPEG-2/SD-only.
