The iOS app will not allow me to record shows
The iOS app will not allow me to record shows. I search for a show, or open the guide, and press record. I get a pop-up to confirm, or open recording options. It is completely unresponsive. Sometimes I can open the options, sometimes I can’t. In either case, I can never confirm my recording. I never had this problem until I had to download the new app.
I just tried to go onto the DIRECTV website, and everything I try to record results in an error message, “this program is not available for recording right now.“

You just learned of the new app’s bugs. Continue to use the older ‘DIRECTV on the Go’ app until the bugs are fixed. If you happened to remove the old app, you are out of luck because it was already removed from the AppStore.
As far as troubleshooting goes, what are your DIRECTV receiver models? Are they connected to the Internet (and how)? Is the phone/tablet connected to the same Internet as your DIRECTV receiver? Have you made sure that external sources is turned ON on the DIRECTV receiver? (This is accessed by going to Menu, Settings, and Whole Home)
Does the app glitch when scheduling recordings from a specific channel and/or movie/show? Or, are all scheduled recordings from the app not working?

Ugh bug.
I have the genie whole home.
I couldn’t use the old app. It forced me to download the new one. I’m sure I have the old app on most of my devices still. Is there a way I can work around the forced update?
My main receiver is wired into the router. Some of the satellite receivers are wireless. I’m not sure how that helps troubleshoot though . I should be able to use the app to initiate a recording even if I’m 10 states away and nowhere near my home network, right? If not, it’s useless anyways. If I’m home, I’ll just record it on the DVR itself.
I tried to record just about every channel on the guide. Always the same result.
I’ll look at that external sources menu when I return from travel later this week. Thanks for that insight! I’m not sure how it would’ve been turned off though, but maybe I’ll get lucky and that’s all it is.
I can’t get a receiver model number until then either, but they’re only two or three years old.
