Trying to program DirecTV remote to control Denon AV receiver
We have RC66RX remote and are trying to program it to control our new Denon AVR-S970H receiver.
Tried going through on-screen menu. Settings - remote - program remote for audio equipment, etc.
I don't see our Denon model # in the list. Tried a few that sounded close. Nothing worked.
Then tried moving switch to AV1, pressing and holding mute+select and inputting codes I looked up online. At least one of the codes controlled power but not sure if it worked for volume. Tried moving volume lock to AV1. However, everytime I pressed button on remote, it would say that remote wasn't programmed and did I want to program.
Anybody know how I can program DirecTV remote to control volume of new Denon receiver? Thanks!

@DIRECTVhelp Tried the on screen method but it kept going around in circles and never was able to setup/control new Denon AV receiver.
I've tried all the basics, looking for someone who has gotten this to work. Thanks!

We apologize that our Universal Remote does not work with receivers other than our own. You may need to use your device's personal remote or contact the manufacturer for further assistance. Rhyan, DIRECTV Community Specialist

What client to you have?
I have a Gemini, and I see it putting out the IR commands when I do a volume up, I have a Denon receiver.
It's possible to issue power and volume commands over CEC, but I don't know what if any DTV models do this.

We recently upgraded our TV to the LG 70UQ7070ZUD. My husband decided to get a PlayStation 5 which required an HDMI 2.1 cable. Well our cable was 2.0 so we bought a new cable to upgrade for his PS5. I also discovered that the AVR that everything runs through was outdated, so we purchased the Denon AVR S-570BT 5.2 system. Everything hooked up fine until I couldn’t program the DirecTV RC73 remote to the Denon receiver. You can’t find the audio remote code anywhere online that will allow you to program it successfully with the DirecTV remote. So after several frustrating hours of trying to figure out how to get the audio to work through my receiver, I finally did two changes in my TV setup. The first change was to set my HDMI 1(eARC) as the default (Recent Input) startup to match the Denon receiver; the second change was to enable HDMI-CEC settings. BINGO!! The DirecTV remote was able to turn everything off and on without a hitch and audio came out of all the wired speakers and could be controlled by the one remote. Hope this helps anyone else with same problem.
