Upgrading from HD to 4K

What all is involved and required to upgrade for the 1080HD to 4KUHD. We just got a TV in my living room and bedroom that is 4KUHD and want to be able to watch my Directv in 4K. I currently have a Genie system that was installed in August of 2021.

It’s March 2021 now. Maybe you meant 2020? In any event, as long as you have a 4K receiver, which I believe you do and a 4K TV, I don’t think there is anything else you need. There isn’t much 4K content, though. Tune to a 4K channel and find out. You may need to call to activate 4K on your account.

I did mean 2020 sorry. I thought it said something about needing different equipment so I guess it is just a general message that everyone gets until it is activated.

Try restarting the receiver the 4K TV is connected to. It may not have detected being connected to a 4K tv yet.

DO you have a C61K (that is Needed) to connect to the 4K TV for viewing Direct TV content .

Select the TV input that they c61K is connected too

In my living room I have HR54-500, in the rooms threw out I have C61W-400. I just found this info on the website or I would have included it in the original question.

There is no 4K receiver, only a Client (though HR54 is needed as part of the setup). Specifically the model is C61K. If you have C61W that is a wireless Client which is not 4K.

You would need to call DirecTV and order a 4K upgrade. As it has been less than a year since you got your current equipment, a free upgrade would not be expected. The one-time lease cost of a Mini Genie Client is $99.

If you wait for you next free upgrade, I would consider an HDDVR instead of a Client. Gain 2 tuners and 500GB recording space, instead of stealing capability from the Genie. Keep in mind these are the early days of 4K so there is only a couple channels, plus a few PPVs. So I wouldn't be in a rush right now since 4K content is limited.
