User options to control Pause 'Screen Saver' or Rebate...

The screen saver is really an advertisement. But we pay directly for DirecTv, we should get a rebate, say $10.00 a month for you to run the ads, or let us turn them off. Plus, they come on sooooo quickly. Like 30secs after pause. Often I'm examining something on the screen, then I have to come out of the screensaver and it takes 5 seconds or so to get back to the program, then I can forward a frame to get back to what I was doing... and repeat...

Juniper, please don't close this thread like the other two just now...

There's not much point in keeping the post open, because no-one here can change this.

I know mate, I wouldn't have posted it but Juni... locked two threads I commented on. Anyway, I found a solution I'm quite happy with and it doesn't involve losing the ability to stream 'watch now' programs.

As this thread is not from a couple years ago, or even last post months ago, I see no reason why anyone would close this thread at this time. More reasonable then mass posting to multiple old threads.

The advertisements allow networks, and to a smaller extent TV providers (if advertising specific paid content), to offset costs with that revenue. Instead of advertisements they could raise the bill that much more. There are not advertisement rebates, only that costs would be higher without them.

To be clear, I am not a fan of the advertisement screen saver. I respect it is their decision to use space available for it. Since it is only with internet connected you can return to the traditional logo screen saver by disconnecting your setup from the internet. You would lose access to On Demand of course, but that is optional as is beyond the satellite service you pay for.

My only complaints are two-fold; The length of time for the screen saver to kick on (advertisement or logo version). I would like a longer delay to help those who have vision limitations if they are checking something on screen. Even better would be an option to choose your own delay (10 seconds, 15 seconds, 30 seconds, etc.); And of course when it doesn't transition smoothly between pause and back to TV, either better programming or some improved hardware in future equipment to shore up that weakness. So my issues are with the technical bits. The existence of it does not matter to me if implemented a little better.

But to deal with the advertisement screen saver are 3 options: Disconnect from internet to return to logo version; change TV providers; Just ignore screen saver and do something else while paused.

If you've chosen your solution, then great. Regardless this screen saver is the option going forward that has slowly been introduced, so no signs or intention of it going away in the foreseeable future.
