Watch DVR from outside my house

I can stream on the web or from my app.  However, if i want to watch content from my dvr outside my house none of my dvr's show up.  I have a genie as well as other dvr's

Can this be done? I have been using slingbox.  I do know this service is coming to an end

DTV dropped support for streaming from the Genie outside of the home network a few years ago.

Thank you for answering. So there is no way to watch Dvr outside one’s house?  Only live streaming?

You would need to download your DVR recordings to your smartphone/tablet when connected to your home network. Then you can view them offline remotely.

Hi @clingpeach , let us clarify this for you.

In order to watch the content of your DVR outside your home, you will need to download the content in the app.

1. Make sure your DIRECTV receivers are connected to the broadband and they use the same IP address as your modem/router.

2. At your home, using compatible device  and using the same home network connection as your DIRECTV receivers.

3. After that, you can prepare your mobile device to download the content of your DVR.

If you travel frequently in the US, consider switching to DirecTV Stream. You can view your recordings anywhere with a smartphone/tablet, Roku, FireStick, etc.

Many thanks for this answer?  Is DirectTV Stream an add on service ?

DIRECTV STREAM is a separate provider. It is not an add on to DirecTV.

I don’t think that will help. I want to be able to watch my recorded shows which include sports while I constantly travel within USA

We're here to clear things up, @clingpeach.

In this case, DIRECTV STREAM recordings work with Cloud DVR. You can easily record your favorites shows/programming
when available and watch all your entertainment virtually anywhere.

There are some things we need to keep in mind. The recordings expire after 90 days, In a series recording, max 30 episodes stored with unlimited hours of cloud DVR and max 10 episodes stored with 20 hours of cloud DVR (oldest deleted first which may be in less than 90 days).

Keep in mind the regional sports or local channels programming are subjected to restrictions from the broadcaster and blackouts may apply since they're automatically extended where content continues to stream beyond the programmer’s scheduled time.

On the other hand, the cloud DVR can't schedule recordings from the local/regional channels if they are not within the billing ZIP code.

As mentioned, the only part that comes close to what you want is using MobileDVR to copy temporarily (30 days) recordings to a smart phone or tablet, which is just for watching on the mobile device and not streaming to a TV.

If you plan to travel like this beyond just the one time, you might consider getting a slimline SWM dish that you can put on a tripod/sled mount, or the Winegard Trav'ler for auto acquiring. This would allow you to take an HDDVR with you allowing access to everything recorded on it as well as current broadcasts. Traveling outside your home's spot beam would only drop access to locals and regional sport networks as they are only broadcast to their respective areas. A regular antenna for locals within range would be a good idea in that case.

Regarding that second option, it must be an HDDVR (HR20 thru HR24) or Genie (HR34 thru HR54/HR54R1). Not a Mini Genie Client (i.e. C31) as they are not DVRs nor basic receivers themselves and cannot work without the main Genie. As such, the Genie-2 (HS17) is not suggested as is more of a hassle for RV users or other traveling over months options than a dedicated box.
