what is the process to upgrade equipment (receivers and remotes) ? It was very simple in the past. Prior to ATT
Ive have a protection plan for 20 years and should be able to upgrade my equipment every two years. Finally all my remotes barely function and my receives do not get all the HD channels. What is the process ??

You get free upgrades even without the protection plan. It just gives an exact date, but you would normally qualify for a free one anyway if it has been over 2 years since your last upgrade. Service calls are $99 (years ago $49.95), delivery of replacement boxes are $19.95, and remotes $15 (cheaper through other retailers). So the amount of times you need those services should be cheaper than what you've paid in 20 years as you pay for the protection plan whether you use it or not.
Not all upgrades are equal, and there is not new tech pumping out every year. So depends on your exact setup what would be the best upgrade option or if there is one to what you have.
What are the models of each box you have now?
