Wifi bandwidth being used up by DirectTV?
Hello,
I have a Sprint WiFi device, which has a datacap of 50G per month. My hubby and I use this only for our laptops. We never stream movies, nor do we use the On Demand feature. We very rarely will order a PPV movie using WiFi, but have not done so in months. For some reason we used 6G in one day (the first day of our new WiFi cycle) on Sprint. Previously we never used all 50G in a month, but ever since hooking up Directtv to the Wifi network, we are consistently using up or exceeding our 50G cap. I would like to know how to set up our Wifi on Directtv so that I can manually connect on the rare occasions we watch movies, and then disconnect the rest of the time. Thank you.

If you're not using OnDemand downloads, just don't connect your box to the internet. You won't really be missing any features.

Do not connect DirecTV to a metered/data cap internet. As you've experienced, this is a high risk of eating through your data allowance. The initial download of On Demand, and ongoing background updates, is where that data goes. There is not an option to limit how much data or when (if you have any free data times).
Menu > Settings > Internet > Advanced > Reset Network Defaults.
Unplug Ethernet if you directly connected instead of WiFi.
Internet connected is for On Demand, ordering PPVs from the remote, and anonymous viewing data. You can log into your DirecTV account on the website to order PPV, though you will be doing so for the scheduled satellite broadcast, not the On Demand so you don't use your data.
Connecting to internet on occasion is not suggested as the initial download will use quite a bit of data itself while it prepares On Demand for use.
