How to buy a Gemini Air device

How does one buy a Gemini Air device?

What does it cost, to purchase it outright.

Is there a monthly usage fee once purchased (i.e. Not leased)

if using with DirecTV Stream service.

I'm sorry, I tried to answer this question for you, but DIRECTV's offerings are such a confusing mess I don't think I can give you a clear answer.  This is what I believe to be true:

If you go with DIRECTV via Internet, then you are provided a Gemini Air as part of your monthly service and you pay a monthly fee.  DIRECTV says you can get one if you are a DIRECTV Satellite subscriber and gives you a link to the DIRECTV Satellite page in that statement... but nowhere on the page after following that link does it explain how (and I don't know that you can... you may just be able to get the cabled Gemini TV device).

I am reasonably sure that you cannot purchase outright one from DIRECTV.

You can buy Gemini Air devices on eBay. Some say used, others say brand new - I don’t know the source of these, but probably from subscribers who got them when DTV sold them (and/or gave them to subscribers).  All that I saw were what I’d consider unreasonably expensive.  There’s also a risk - if they came from subscribers that got them on a “lease“ (as they apparently are only offered now), they would likely be bricked. They could possibly also be the versions for DTV satellite, which don’t work for DTV streaming.   If you still want one given the price, I’d only buy from a vendor offering returns in case you get an unusable one.  However, if you get a good one, I believe they should work ok for “old school” DTV Stream and have no monthly fee - I won’t speculate about use on “DTV via Internet”.

A more practical choice would seem to be the older Gemini (box rather than dongle).  They are available used (eBay, Walmart, probably others) for a fraction of the cost of the Air and with minor (and likely irrelevant) exceptions provides the same service.  Same caveats about buying with ability to return and concern about use on DTV via internet..

This is why people are ditching cable entirely, why not make one available for free to Direct tv streams subscribers and additional ones for a reasonable fee I am just shocked that these cable companies still think that they can nickel and dime consumers still on set tops lease fees.

This is why people are ditching cable entirely,

What does "cable" have to do with DIRECTV, a Satellite or Internet provider?

@Clandecharles

DirecTV is not a cable company.

They provide satellite TV or streaming via internet TV. They are not a cable provider.

DIRECTV Stream subscribers do not get any equipment because it is a bring your own device (BYOD) model. You use your preferred box, be it Roku, Firestick, or even purchasing DirecTV's Stream box if you want a more traditional TV interface.

DirecTV via Internet was modeled similarly to satellite DirecTV in that you were provided their Stream box but under the lease (24 month service agreement, monthly fees, etc.).

Simply put if they provide it, they own it and require you to pay as such along with the 24 month service agreement. If you go a different route where you buy that box, or a independent streaming box (Roku, etc.) then you own it so no additional fees or service agreement, but any replacement costs, etc. are on you.

So go with which service provider/model that works best for you. It is great to have choices after all.

Also....you can buy a Gemini box from Walmart for 40 dollars and avoid the "lease fees"  You can also find Gemini Air's on Ebay. No need to lease a device. You can buy any device from 3rd party sellers.
