Question-problem with first bill

I recently returned to DirecTV after several years and signed up for the Entertainment package with a few premium channels that are free for the first 2 or 3 months (depending on the channel). Entertainment package is currently offered for $30 off for the first 3 months, bringing the total to $59.99 plus tax. However, my Visa was just billed for $83.09. The Customer Service Agent I called today maintains that the amount is correct and the $30 promo begins the 2nd month of service. However, I just checked the screenshot I took when I signed up, and it clearly says $30 off for the first 3 months. (I did not get the Gemini device. I stream with a Roku and the DirecTV app). My Account's Payment History shows a charge of $63.01 that never made it to my credit card but seems to be the actual correct amount. What gives, and what can I do? After this Bad Beginning, I'm skeptical that I'll get the deal I signed up for.

What is the breakdown of the bill itself? What are the line items (charges and credits)?

The offer you mention, does that match your order confirmation? Also be sure which service it advertises for as DirecTV (satellite), DIRECTV STREAM (no-contract, bring your own device), and DirecTV via Internet (contract, Gemini provided, billing similar to satellite) are 3 distinct services.

It lists the services I actually signed up for (Stream with my own device, and the correct premium channels). However, the breakdown of the bill lists a charge for each of the 3 premium channels that are supposed to be included for free for the first 2 or 3 months (depending on the channel), also a charge for unlimited DVR, which was also listed as free in the offer I signed up for. In addition, the Entertainment option itself is listed as $72.59, not $59.99, which was the amount in the offer I signed up for. I'm waiting on a callback from the phone number Melchisedec sent me. I really hope this can be resolved without my spending even more time on it. Any advice you can give is appreciated.

Thinking about it, with an offer and special discounts, this sounds more like a DirecTV via Internet account, not DIRECTV STREAM. With the no-contract, bring your own device, avoid additional fees (fees that are similar to satellite service) would not really have additional specials because they don't have to encourage you into a commitment.

I hope the official team you're working with can get it straightened out. But I would suggest going back through the order confirmation and the offer and looking through all fine print. Concerned you were looking at option A but ended up ordering option B (in a sense).

If I understand you correctly, you're saying I was mistaken about the package and terms of the promo offer that I signed up for. I called a DirecTV Agent (again) today and, in fact, I do understand the terms that are posted on the website. The problem is that DirecTV doesn't abide by those terms. The website clearly states that there's $30 off of "the FIRST 3 months." However, the Agent said that "it takes time to process" that promo and that I'll receive $30 off of months 2, 3, and 4. If that does, indeed, happen, I can live with that, but those are not the terms stated on the website (I can provide screenshots). I consider that poor practice on the part of DirecTV, at best, and fraudulent at worst. Interestingly, the Agent did not explain why the original charge listed under my Payment History is for the correct amount of $63.01, which never went through to my credit card. Instead, the second, higher amount of $83.09 was posted to my credit card.

Was only saying it was a concern, not that for sure that is what happened. The naming of DirecTV via Internet and DIRECTV STREAM, which has changed multiple times, has caused some very understandable mistakes with one being confused for the other. Checking order confirmation and fine print is just a step to be sure.

In addition, I wonder if any particular specials had a prerequisite. Commonly being minimum package, auto bill pay, paperless billing, etc. And then there is where offered as a promotional discount or free, but the terms are for keeping service for so long and then it is reimbursed or you have to submit for redemption after the fact.

If your first bill and order confirmation do not match up, then it needs to be adjusted or verified the reason for the exact discrepancy. The first 3 months doesn't start until bill 2 is suspicious, unless fine print mentions offer may take up to 30 days to process (something like that).

Once you have a verified answer (both by support and your bill), please share. As you've described it does sound like something is not adding up. Very curious what the full answer is.
