Old AT&T TV C71KW-400 get ERROR 5107

I got another -400 off of eBay and it works fine.  It would be interesting to know if it is just the -200s that are bricked after being assigned to another user.

In my case, the two -400s that I bought off eBay are fine and the two -200s that I bought off eBay were bricked (can't remove previous user).  All were supposedly refurbished/like new/etc.

I am not saying buy a -400 to be sure but I would ask the eBay seller before buying any of them and make sure you can return it.  

Common sense would be to buy refurbished units from DirecTV Stream instead of eBay. At least DirecTV Stream offers a 1-year warranty, and they only cost $49.

@bcbsncjlj   Before you post a snarky reply maybe you should take the effort to read the entire thread.  If you did so you would find my previous post where I explained that I already tried one of the refurb units directly from Directv and it didn't work - it was a satellite unit.  And don't tell me that I ordered the wrong one - I only have one account and it is a streaming account not a satellite account.  

Well, then it was under warranty, and it can be replaced, and I did not say you ordered the wrong one. What's "snarky" about that? Personally, I don't care what you ordered - it's your lost money.

For the same reason you posted - to express my opinion. You can ignore or respond.

With the new Directv Stream accounts there is no longer an option to order an Osprey device. You pretty much are stuck getting it through a third party seller or going with the new plan that includes a “Gemini” box. I checked and don’t have that option under Account Overview.

Being a grandfathered subscriber, I was never able to order the box. My only experienced and use of the box was from the BETA test, which I received 2 boxes, a 200 and a 400 model.

Ordered directly from DIRECTV STREAM, even if refurbished, you have direct support and a warranty. Yes there seems to be an issue where they occasionally send one with the wrong firmware (DirecTV vs DIRECTV STREAM) and you cannot at the user level just swap firmware. But at least you have warranty and official support to address any problems.

Buying from eBay is high risk, no warranty. Even if box is 'new', there is no guarantee it isn't registered on someone else's account.

So though ordering from the company is not perfect, at least you avoid the riks of an unverified individual seller. Just my opinion for anyone else who comes accross this thread.

Like I said, you can't order anymore from DIRECTV unless you have the more expensive plan otherwise I would definitely have done that. I have 3 boxes arriving from ebay on Monday.

Contact their twitter support. They will order refurbished (or new) ones for you. Or the live chat on the Dtv Stream website. Good luck with those ebay boxes. If you have issues with them....send them back and get a refund. Also, not sure what you mean by "the more expensive plan"

@txfeinbergs How long have you been a streaming customer?  I am still able to go and order a box.

I just became one two days ago. There is no option to order one anywhere on my accounts page. They instead now want you to buy the Gemini plan which you have to pay for the box rental.

You should have signed up for a trial under the old Directv Stream website. Then you could have chosen to bring your own device during signup.. and then bought refurbished units from them separately.

That is why you are a new customer.  If you were a customer before April 6th then you would have had that option.   But, they just changed how things are for new customers. Were you able to get one free Gemini when you signed up for the service?
