Ordering Gemini Devices
I was a previous DTV subscriber who just reactivated my subscription. I have an old Gemini 1 device.
Where can I purchase additional Gemini devices? The "add a device" option is grayed out in my manage devices tab.
Also, is the Gemini Air faster than the Gemini 1 devices? I prefer a hardwired device if at all possible. Would purchase additional Gemini 1's if they were available. Not sure how this works if you purchase on eBay.

Gemini Air is just a dongle, so is wireless-only. And is available for the streaming-only versions, not traditional DirecTV (satellite).
If you are a streaming/via internet customer, you can purchase a Gemini from Wal-Mart for about $46.
Getting from eBay you must be cautious as some are still tied to another's account, or are an earlier run where they have the original software and weren't connected to get the new location to download updates for the service.

I didn't realize Walmart carried Gemini devices. Are they DTV Geminis or an off-brand/Google Gemini?

There is no off-brand. Gemini is what DirecTV calls their C71KW Client. Just like all C models before it are Mini Genie (satellite service only).
The Wal-Mart option is only for streaming-only customers. Satellite get their equipment from DirecTV itself with a 24 month agreement.

Thanks. I was told by support I can't order any devices currently because I'm in a trial period. After that expires June 11 and I start paying, then it will allow me to order additional devices. Who knows if that's true or not.

It looks like the only way to order from DirecTV is to lease it for $10/mo with a credit check. It doesn't say $10/mo for x months. It appears to be a perpetual lease.

That's right @geekdoc. After the free trial, you'll have the option to add a device for a $10/mo lease fee for each device. Note that a credit check is applicable, and a one-time charge may apply at the point of sale based on the results. Charles, DIRECTV Community Team

Is there not an option to purchase the device? I do not want to lease it.

We don't have the purchase option anymore, it's only available through lease now. Charles, DIRECTV Community Team

That's a bummer. One of the reasons I went back to DirecTV. I guess going back to Comcast is in my future!

We’d love for you to stay, @geekdoc. The changes benefit our customers, as reconnecting and new customers no longer pay the Advanced Receiver services fee. The lease device is under warranty, and we guarantee our package prices. DIRECTV is a great choice, and we want you to know the best options. Here’s a summary to help you decide: DIRECTV vs. Comcast Xfinity Review | DIRECTV Insider Charles, DIRECTV Community Team

Doesn't benefit the customer. It benefits DirecTV's bottom line. Keep it 3 years and you've paid $360 instead of $200. Keep it 5 and DirecTV has generated even more profit. If you wanted to benefit the customer, you would've offered a lease-to-own or offer both options. Nice corporate spin. LOL
