HOW DOES ATT DECIDE WHO GETS U-VERSE AND WHO DOES NOT ON THE SAME STREET?- UNHAPPY CUSTOMER!

I have spent hours on the phone with ATT, including Supervisors, and had technicians out to the house.  Not one person has been able to tell me why I cannot get U-Verse in my home.  My neighbors across the street, who are FURTHER away from the ATT junction box, have it.  Their address is accepted and mine is not.  We are about to file an unfair practice complaint with our congressman and the FCC.  Is it because we have a Hispanic last name?  Or, have not paid off ATT for this service?  As loyal ATT customers, with 2 extremely slow DSL lines, 2 Ipads, 3 Iphones, Direct TV, and 2 phone lines, we feel at the very least, we should have some explanation.  We are getting ready to move everything to another company.  It can't be worse than this.  If anyone has any ideas for us, please let us know.  At this point, even simple Skyping and Logmein.com is not an acceptable connection.  Two of my neighbors have recently canceled their ATT service. Thanks for any info or advice.

There are several possibilities for your not being able to get service.  First off, how old is your home?  If it was built recently enough, it won't be in AT&T's database so they won't be able to verify your address as available for service.  This is usually taken care of by having AT&T re-verify your address and update their system.  Similarly, if you don't already have AT&T service (landline or DSL) and the previous residents didn't either, it is possible that there is no line run to your house.

It could be that the line that runs from the AT&T VRAD ("junction box") does not run stright to your house.  In some neighborhoods, they actually run a line that starts at the box and works its way through the neighborhood, so you might be one house away from the VRAD, but still be too far away for service if the line runs the opposite direction through your neighborhood.

Another point to consider is that there may not be any open ports in teh VRAD to connect your service (without disconnecting someone else's service that is).  This happens more often in the older communities where U-Verse isn't available yet, and they have a limited number of DSL ports to work with.

The last point seems unlikely if your neighbors have U-Verse, but there are some regions where it is not cost effective for AT&T to run the infrastructure to support high speed internet service (U-Verse or DSL).  In those regions, AT&T offers wireless internet service (much like cellular data plans).  This tends to be more expensive, and limiting, but at least it's service.  It is possible that you are in one of those areas, but as I mentioned, it doesn't seem likely if your neighbors have service.

It actually depends on how far your are to our backbone. Thats what we call (EWL). Sometimes even if your just 20 steps away from your neighbor that has att uverse can sometimes happen. But what you can do is you can contact their suppport and check it out. If our database is somehow not up to date this happens as well. Call att customercare and they'll submit a helper ticket for you to check your address. Theyll be asking you few questions in orer to fill out the ticket. But that might take almost 2 weeks

Lets try looking in to that. What normally happens is DSL customers are migrated to IP-DSL (considered UVERSE). Theyre those 4000-5000 feet away from the office so thats why it happens. But we'll look into that.

I'm sure it's not because of your name. You can't go by the distance from the box because of the way telephone lines are routed. It could go down the street behind the neighbors and then back up you side, making you too far away.

It wont really matter with your name Mr. Montes 🙂 I assure you to that. It somehow pertains to the database and the length. Nothing more. You dont have to worry.

All of this said - - - is there anyone with AT&T that can tell me when Uverse will be available on my street or in my subdivision.  There has to be someone within the company with a route/plan.  It's scattered all over town, just not in our specific subdivision.  We've been waiting for years - - and it's time to get rid of the cable company!
