Mother Passed Away tried to cancel service on 3/3. AT&T won't cancel her Uverse, Phone, and Internet due to technical issue on their side!!
My elderly mother passed away, and on 3/3/20 I called to cancel the service for Uverse, Phone and Internet, because there's nobody remaining in the residence. Her bills were paid in full, nothing owing on the account.
Six phone calls for over three hours, supposed escalation to their 'Back Office Escalation Team' and still no resolution on 3/27! They have promised phone calls and email regarding status, and there has not been one follow-up that they stated they would do. The response is 'We don't understand, we have the back office working on it.' and they keep insisting that I call back to resolve, even though there is nothing, obviously, that I can do to resolve it by staying on hold.
I canceled the services, have an account in good standing, and AT&T wants to make a difficult time when we're grieving the loss of our mother, much more difficult by making their technical problems ours, by not canceling our services as requested.

First let me say: I'm sorry for your loss. I've buried my dad, my mom and more recently my husband of 45 years.
Is your name on the account too? I would tell you to take a copy of the death certificate to a corporate store but that might be an issue right now.
Here's the thing: If the account was ONLY in your mom's name and there is no CC for autopay, don't worry about it. Do you really care if they send it collections? Do you care of they report it to her credit report?
Unless your name is on the account, you are not responsible and any dispute will not affect your account.

Unbelievable! What terrible customer service - account in good standing, your mother passes away, AT&T won't cancel services due to a technical problem with their system.
They don't resolve it, refuse to communicate status and tell you to keep calling back and staying on the line to get told to call back another time!
