Restart canceled service - Deposit required

I was told I could restart service by one of your customer service guys after he helped with an outstanding bill. I paid it in full and now they tell me to start back I have to pay a 450 dollar deposit. This is ridiculous. If I had been told that before I paid I would have not wasted my time.

Think you answered your own question, 'an outstanding bill'.  Unpaid bill to utility gets deposit response, seems perfectly normal.  Can be returned on good/ontime pay by $5 bill credit/mo. 😉

Had your service merely been suspended, payment would have restored service (and a restoral fee of $49/service would have appeared on the next bill).

Based on what you say, you account was closed. After you made your payment, AT&T needed to set you up with a new account, including running a credit check. Based on the credit check, the non-refundable credit fee was required.

The account was closed when I disputed the bill. Another associate on your team said because I had an outstanding balance on that bill (which is now paid in full) it triggered the deposit . I should not have to pay a deposit when Att over billed me.

WE aren't members of any team, just other users like you, if you would've posted this, I would not have responded like I did.

Another user w/perfect credit got this $449 deposit request, but he protested it and turned out he had fraud block on his accounts that caused it.  Soon as he unblocked it for ATT Uverse, the deposit went away. Smiley Surprised

I believe you maybe right about that. I had to have a credit card replaced due to it being compromised and $1500+ fraudulent charges. One for an ATT payment ($683) at an ATT store and while Googling the store, the search results turned up tons of similar experiences.

Evidently they steal your credit card info and head to the local AT&T stote... js

Got to pay for that new-iPhone habit somehow.
