BGW 320-5050 hooking up Uverse box
I have fiber coming to a BGW320-5050. From there it's hooked up via Ethernet to a router on the other side of the house, which feeds Ethernet jacks in various places around the house, including one that feeds my Uverse TV. In that connection there are 3 cat5 Ethernet connections - (1) wall to Netgear router 5, (2) Netgear 2 to Uverse box "Network", (3) Netgear 3 to TV "LAN", plus Uverse box HDMI to TV HDMI. This has worked great and much better than when I had it using WIFI.
This week I tried to add another Uverse TV in the room where the BGW320 resides. Unfortunately there's no Ethernet back to my home run closet, so I tried to connect it directly to one of the other Ethernet ports in the BGW320. I tried the same setup, except the equivalent of (1) above going from a BGW320 Ethernet port to a different Netgear router. This doesn't work at all. First of all, it didn't successfully connect well to the Uverse box (which I thought could be a problem with the box), but also it causes the original tv to lose connection. It'll work for 10 seconds before stalling out. If I change the channel it'll work for another 10 seconds before stalling out, etc.
So apparently this is not a valid way of connecting this situation. Is there a good way of doing this without having to resort to WIFI? thanks

Are both Netgear devices "routers" or is one of them perhaps an Ethernet Switch? I'm thinking the first Netgear "router" is likely a GS105 (or similar), which is a switch, and your new Netgear device really is a router and that is causing an issue.

sorry, they are both Netgear GS105E switches.

Do you have any other devices connected to the second GS105E switch, such as a Wireless Access Point, Wireless Router, or Wireless Extender?

No, just the same as the other netgear

Since you're seeing the "works for 10 seconds, then quits" behavior, something is going wrong with multicast IP traffic handling when you connect the second box. Most typically this happens when you connect an IPTV (TV receiver or U-verse TV WAP) to the same switch that is also connected to some wireless router/access point/extender (which is why I asked) because such equipment chokes when it sees the multicast traffic that is being delivered to the switch and sent to it as well as the IPTV gear. What else is connected to the "new" GS105E?
Try swapping the two GS105E and see if the original configuration continues to work.

I swapped the two GS105E switches and the original configuration still worked well standalone. But when I fired up the other tv room it caused both to fail. That GS105E connects directly to one of the other Ethernet ports in the BGW320. Also have GS105E (port2) to Uverse box "Network"port. Also have GS105E (port3) to the "LAN" port on the TV. Plus Uverse box HDMI to TV HDMI.
I'm wondering if the problem is that you can't use two Ethernet ports on the BGW320 in this way?

No, you can use two switches on different Gateway ports.
On the switch that causes the issue when connected:
Port 1 goes to the BGW320
Port 2 goes to the U-verse TV receiver
Port 3 goes to the TV
Port 4 and 5 are open?
What happens if you disconnect the TV from port 3?
What happens with this TV receiver if you disconnect the other switch?

thanks for continuing to help. I'll try that later tonight or tomorrow morning.
