Can someone use my remote to buy a pay per view and see it on a oomputer elsewhere
Had a most weird experience. Was billed $55 for a boxing match pay per view. We did not purchase it. Do not even follow boxing. When I called to complain and talked to several reps from the initial billing service to tech support to the rep for the condo building we are in, was told that the pay per view was ordered from our remote (she claimed they could tell how it was ordered.
There is only one problem with that version of reality. We were in our unit watching TV at the time.
Either
a. someone can hack in somehow.
b. this is a AT&T scam to raise revenue
Has anyone else had a similar experience?
Any explanation?
Am very upset with the response and the service
Can At&T really tell that the pay per view was from the remote?
What other device could be used?
And before anybody responds about kids, etc, there are only the two of us in a 1 Bedroom condo unit with one TV

Yes it can be done thru the remote. They probably mean thru the receiver itself that when you access the ppv channel there is an option to order when you use the remote. In the issue that nobody else ordered it, I don't think it is a scam but it might be possible error on the system.

Check out the options of Smart Control for your mom. I've never used it but it looks like you can lock out purchases of On Demand movies and Pay-per-view events.

This just happened to me! A live fight showed up on my recordings and then on my bill. There has been no one in my home and I would never order or watch it. Customer service says it came from my home and could not take the charge off for a live event. How could this have happened? AT&T recent data breach? I am not happy and plan to escalate as far as I can.

File a BBB complaint. Those are forwarded to the OOP. Someone should reach out to you.
