Cannot get AT&T U-verse cable TV to work

Neighbor has AT&T U-verse service connected to a Bauhn TV set. When he turns on the TV via button on the back of the set and turns on the cable box, he gets the "no signal" box which floats all around the screen. The TV is on the right input.

AT&T service person went there, fixed it in less than a minute, and neighbor got billed $100 for the service call.  Now, cable stopped working again and he has the "no signal" box again.

He doesn't want to pay AT&T another $100 to fix it.  Is there a trick to get it working again? Thank you.

The service calls are typically billable if it's something that can be fixed by the customer, such as changing the batteries or tightening connections.

Make sure all connections are tight and not just to the receiver, but to all TVs and all U-Verse equipment.

There aren’t any tricks involved in connecting an HDMI cable from the settop box to an HDTV.  Why not have the person call back and ask for an explanation of what the tech did that was worth $100/min.
