Current DirecTV Customer - New Access to U-Verse Internet

We live in a rural area without access to landline or wired Internet.  We currently have DirecTV as our television provider.

AT&T is currently installing U-Verse in our neighborhood, I would like to know how the existing DirecTV account will be treated when we sign up for U-Verse.

1) Will we be able to take advantage of any of any introductory offers if we already have DirecTV service? We have been customers for 8 years now.

2) Will the TV service from AT&T be the same DirecTV we currently have? We currently have a satellite dish, how will this work if it is switched to the fiber line?

3) Will we get to keep our DVRs?

Last but not least...

4) How can we tell when the neighborhood install is complete and we can sign up for service?

@OMyStarz   Yeah, but what if only putting in Internet and phone, no TV?  You'd keep DirecTV you have now at same price, but could get a deal on Internet/phone.  This would be called ADSL 2/2+ Internet.

ATT is not putting VDSL 2 Internet needed for TV in rural areas, 5-6 spead out users might get it is all.  In the area covered, they'd want 40-50 TV users to make it profitable.  😉

Good info Chris, thank you.

The company that is installing the line told us it would be TV, Internet and Phone - but I do know they can be misinformed, so now that I have the information you have given I will just wait and see.

I do not know how many here would sign up for the TV service if it were offered, but I can tell you that they are installing along about a 7 mile stretch of 2 lane highway with quite a few homes more than 50 on both sides.

Any idea how long it takes from fiber install to setup appointment?

@OMyStarz   You're welcome.  Uverse TV has a 3000' max from the VRAD, just a little over 1/2 mile, so don't think that's what's going in.

ATT will be no help, only info you'll get from them is when you sign up or get bothered by D2D sellers that will lie. 😉

Edit:  From the installing fiber optic cable to replace copper trunk lines spring 2007, then putting down 2 concrete pads mid summer.  Late summer they put 2 cabinets on the pads, not until late fall did Detroit Edison put in electric meter/power.

So, all winter they started restringing the new crossbox and VRAD.  They finally got done in May, 2008.  I got the OK online the end of June, installed July 15, 2008 2d one in the VRAD.

Wow, timeline not sounding too promising. The construction guys said they were supposed to have it in by January 18th, but they were running late.

I doubt we'll be getting too many D2D folks, our uphill, lumpy clay driveway will probably be enough to keep most of them at street level.

I noticed a truck with 6 or 7 tall rectangle shaped boxes, not sure what they were, I guess we will just find out what we get when we get it.

We have lived here for 8 years without wired Internet, so we are getting a little itchy for it now that it's so close.

Thanks again!
